Refinishng Wood Floors or Paint Every Wall Surface: Which one to do first?
Please share your reasons for why it makes sense to do one before the other. TIA.

Re: Refinishng Wood Floors or Paint Every Wall Surface: Which one to do first?
We painted first.
Wood floors throughout the house... took 4 days as I wanted 4 coats of poly.
Then we touched up the baseboard.
It's so much easier to paint the house and not have to worry about the floors whether you do it yourself or hire professionals.
ETA: All major renovations were done first, bathrooms, kitchen, electrical, boiler, CAC, etc. Hardwood floor guy and railing guy had to coordinate around each other. Railing guy had to start, floors first few coats, then railing guy had to come back... don't remember why.
I had multiple contractors in my house everyday (including weekends) for 4 months. We painted, floors were last then we moved in.

Our floor guy recommended that we do the floors first because the dust from the sanding can damage the paint job if the paint is not completely dry.
My BIL is a professional painter and he agreed. When he painted the house, he used drop cloths and did not get any paint on the floors.

I agree with this. We painted first and it destroyed the moldings....

I agree, I got my floors done first. It's true about the dust from the floors getting on the walls and also, when they did the floors some of the stain splashed on the lower part of the walls... and so I would have had to re-paint it anyway, so in my case, luckily I did the floors first.

We painted our ceilings 1st...then had the floors done....then the walls... that was order our floor guy recommended - so we wouldn't have to care about paint dripping from ceiling... but so our walls wouldn't get ruined

Re: Refinishng Wood Floors or Paint Every Wall Surface: Which one to do first?
i was told by our guy to do floors first then floors. After two days of a wait we put down brown paper and taped the seams with blue tape and painted away. If your a really messy painter then put cardboard over the brown kraft paper.

Re: Refinishng Wood Floors or Paint Every Wall Surface: Which one to do first?
we were going to do the floors first BUT later decided that the 'risk' of damage was minimal. We also installed new molding throughout the entire house.
So what we did was 1. Prime everything 2. paint ceilings 3. paint walls 4. refinish floors 5. 2 coats paint on base moldings then installed, caulked, and did one more coat. 6. painted the stair risers
The only thing I had to do was dry mop my walls and ceilings (swiffer dry) .... I used one full box to get everything off.
