Just because your DH would never do it - as you've been quick to point out and reiterate - doesn't make it odd that this DH would.
My DH comes on playdates when he's able. His work schedule is as such that he can do it during the week. I like spending the extra time with him and he enjoys hanging out with other parents. I have hung out with other dads during play dates too.
I have no idea what's odd about this scenario.
I am closed-minded maybe but I'm having a hard time picturing the guy who enjoys spending time with a bunch of wives who probably look forward to meeting up with their friends, sharing stories, and venting about life in general (which probably includes talking about their husbands).
OP, I bet if you asked a forum full of guys you'd get a different answer Also, what about the other wives, did you ask them what they think?
I agree and am closed minded also but my DH and I are very independent of each other. My DH loves my DC just as much as that dad probably does but he would want no part of a play date with a bunch of girls. I think it depends on the type of guy the DH is.

And I'd be pissed if DH said he wanted to come and then I had to leave because he was bored.

Re: Would you think this is weird? Playdate and DH related.
I just asked my dh is opinion. He said that he would not want to hang out with a group of women and their kids. Please, at my baby shower he saw all the women and ran for the hills.
Maybe, dads should form playgroups. Or, is that called Little League?

I don't think it is weird , but my dh would never do it in a million years unless there were other Dhs present. He is just not the type to hang out with women and be around for girl talk.

I personally do not think it is weird, but I don't think it is weird that other people tink it is weird. if that makes sense.

Re: Would you think this is weird? Playdate and DH related.
I could see my DH coming on a playdate as a one off just to hang with the moms, but we are all close friends at this point. He wouldn't just go to a playdate with a random group of women. he's friends with all the hubbys and I could see him thinking it would be fine if he had nothing better to do. However, I really can't see him giving up a chance to golf in order to hang with me and my girlfriends.
If the guy was being social and talking to the moms I could understand it more. But to just kind of linger in the background is odd. As you said, it's not quality time with your kids and it's not social time if you are not participating with the other moms.

Re: Would you think this is weird? Playdate and DH related.
i dont do much playdates because i am FTWM but the few i have done on DH has not attended mostly cause he didnt want to and he is the type of person he would rather do things just us which annoys me at time. I guess it depends on the kind of playdate we are having. if we are going somehwere other than a park, or someones house i woudl like hime sometimes to come. One time a mom asked me if me DH and DD wanted to go to a park and go to dnner the only reason DH didnt come was because he had plans to go fishing if he didnt i would have assisted on him coming and probably would have given him crap for not coming.
Also someone mentioned bday parties i think right now with only one kid i like to have DH come with me to parties and he does when he can. i thought that was normal. Now when we have two i would have DH stay home with the sibling when one of them had a part
with that said i would not find it strange if i had a playdate and a person DH came along.
with all the people saying the playdate they use the time to bullshitt, gossip, etc with the moms how old are your kids.
I know when we go to a park while i talk to the other mom most of my time is paying attention to my DD making sure she isnt runnig off not getting hurt not climbing anythign she isnt suppose to pushing her in the swing etc. i would actually love for DH to come so he can acutally do all that and i could actually talk to the mom more

Re: Would you think this is weird? Playdate and DH related.
I think it kind of depends on the situation but I definitely find it a little odd. For instance, I have a group of girls who I have become friends with though DC's school. We schedule regular playdates but these play dates are 50 % about the kids and 50% about getting together to chat, have some finger food etc - we have a lot of fun. So while the kids are a pretense it is not like it is for the sole purpose go getting the kids to socialize.
We do have other get togethers where we invite DHs etc but these "playdates" are always girls only although it is not expressly stated.if someone's DH come we wouldn't be upset or anything but it would definitely change the dynamic.
FTR - my DH is a VERY involved dad and we do a lot as a family and individually with the kids - he is very hands on - however, not everything in my life is "about" him and I like socializing on my own too.
I think some people may not understan this but for me, it is a social outlet for us moms and our friends as well.
