Quote for bathroom Reno?

Hi, quick question for you guys. Just got a quote for a bathroom Reno, it's a 5x7 small bathroom. Going to re-pipe the shower, redo tiles, new Sheetrock, new tiles up the walls only halfway up, new vanity, toilet, not new flooring.

Labor only cost $4,000. He says materials depend on what we pick but he says $2,000 minimum. This is a 2 Fam investment home, which we currently live in. So we wanna make it nice but not wow, it's not our forever home.

This is our first house, first bathroom Reno... Wanna know if this estimate sounds right to you. What do u think? I plan on getting at least 1-2 more estimates.

Does anyone highly recommend someone in queens? I'm in maspeth. Thanks so much.

Quote for bathroom Reno?

we're doing ours ourselves, and spending the following on parts:

wall tile (only in shower) : $400
toilet/parts: $365
vanity: $300
medicine cabinet: $100
light fixture: $100
vent fan: $80
heated flooring: $200
sink faucet: $80
towel bar/toilet holder: $50

so far we've spent $1475, and we still need

floor tile
vanity top/sink
tub
tub fixtures
building materials (sheet rock, grout, etc.)

we're assuming to spend another 800 or more on these things, for a total of about 2200-2500, and we're really not going high end

i'm not sure about labor though because we're doing everything ourselves

I redid my bathroom, similar in size for about 7500-8000 all said and done. The demo/labor was 5k of the cost.

The materials sound like an ok price. We did our bathroom ourselves. (Well i used my pointer finger & dh did the labor ;) ) So no labor, but it was soup to nuts. It's a large bathroom (double sinks) we changed plumbing, real stone on the floor and to the ceiling in the tub. Heated floors, Sheetrock etc... It was 4000. This bathroom was my "baby" and we spent more than we could have.

So for a smaller bathroom, no floors, only half tiling in tub etc, I feel like you might be able to do better. I'm no expert though! Absolutely get another quote. Gl

Re: Quote for bathroom Reno?

Thanks for the responses, I give you guys a lot of credit for doing it yourselves!

We got a second quote from a guy who was referred to us by friends. Get this, he said $2500 for labor. That's $1500 cheaper than the first guy. The only downside, this guy said 10-12 days, whereas the other guy said 4-6 days.

I don't even use that bathroom now, so its not an inconvenience. I feel like its a no-brainer to go with this cheaper guy. Oh, and my friend said his work is really good.

Should I go for it?!?

My main bathroom is almost double that size. We had the plumbing moved, tile floor to half the wall, and they installed all furniture and toilet. Took two weeks. Total cost 6k plus 800 for the materials and vanity. Fm if you want his number. We re in Suffolk
