is there any harm in going to the potty once in a while

I'm referring to DD going to the potty, not me of course
DD is 20 months & I didn't intend on potty training til 2 (mainly because it's easier in the summer with less clothes & I didn't think she'd be ready)
A couple weeks ago I could tell she was trying to poop so I asked if she wanted to go on the potty & she said ok & went I couldn't believe it.
Since then she usually says no when I ask or I'll put her on & nothing happens but once in a while at night she says yes & goes.
I honestly think she does it to prolong bedtime but either way she does go.
Is it bad to be so lax about it & just put her on when once in a while & when she says yes?
Is it better to run with it & seriously start training her?
I'm afraid I'll miss my chance if I don't but I like it this way because there's no pressure & I'm hoping that this is a good introduction & she'll just go when she's ready - does that happen?

I did this with dd at around 22 months...just to familiarize her with the potty in a relaxed no pressure atmosphere. She went a few times but wasn't ready to pee on it. No biggie...i let it go, and would casually bring it up to her. Then at 27 months she woke up one morning and said i want to go on the potty....and that was it! We took a road trip three days later...no accidents. She was trained!

I don't know if there is harm in it but this is the approach I have been taking. Mainly because I am having a baby in a few days and I know now is not the time to do it full force. I started noticing dd was dry for longer periods of time and started offering the potty. She still doesn't tell me but she is going more and more often lately. I'm am hoping it will just makes things easier when we do it full time.

Your dd sounds just like my DS. Every night at bedtime he says "poopoo"-- for the past few nights when I bring him he goes pee. I do think he's using it as a way to stay up longer and he just happens to go

Throughout the day he'll say he has to go and sometimes he goes sometimes he doesn't.

I'm doing the same thing with my DD (20 months old also). She's done pee pee and poo poo in the potty, but nothing consistent, and I don't push her. I figure if she wants to, she will.
