Male factor / trying naturally for next pregnancy
Hi there, husband has borderline severe mfi (bt 2-4 mill washed/total motile sperm). Because he knew of his condition (bilateral varicoceles) we never tried naturally per the advice of a urologist/ re. We went straight to iui. And after 4 cycles, we went to Ivf, and were triply blessed - see screen name :) we would like a fourth and wouldn't start trying for a while but I am already wondering if anyone with a mfi dx had success naturally? Or if you had a great urologist who helped with trying naturally? I am wondering if we jumped the gun. from what i now understand, sperm count isnt necessarily predictive of infertility all of the time.Tia!!!

Re: Male factor / trying naturally for next pregnancy
When we went through IVF almost 4 years ago, we were strictly mf & DH had horrific post washed numbers. Our urologist told us we would never conceive on our own.
Much to our surprise, I got pregnant naturally without trying when our IVF baby was only 3 months old. We have 2 healthy boys 10.5 months apart & often wonder how he was conceived since we were told DH.had horrific counts.

Thanks for this. I hear of "miracle" conceptions post Ivf all the time- but not with mfi! Congrats on your two miracles.

Re: Male factor / trying naturally for next pregnancy
We have MFI and never used protection since before having IVF for DS in 2008. We needed FET for DD who we had in 2011 and still haven't been using anything and I've never once seen a natural BFP. Not to say it can't happen, but we weren't part of those lucky ones who get the "surprise". Good luck, I hope you get your little miracle!

Male factor / trying naturally for next pregnancy
Thank you for posting this because I have been thinking about posting for a while. We have twins and did IVF in 2011. My husband's diagnosis was "unknown MFI". I want him to have an SA soon to see if anything has changed since we initially started in 2010.

That sounds like a good idea to start. Sperm count can change over time! Glad I am not the only one. Also glad I am not the only one with multiples who wants another. I keep getting the "are you crazy" look from everyone :) good luck! Hope we can avoid Ivf next time.

Re: Male factor / trying naturally for next pregnancy
Because of MFI, we were told by several dr's to go straight to IVF bc we would have almost 0% chance of conceiving naturally. Well, I got pregnant twice naturally in a matter of 3 months before we got started on any treatments. My first pregnancy we experienced a loss and my second resulted in my 15 month old DD. DH had surgery for bilateral varicocele in between the pregnancies but I got pregnant too quick for it to have been from surgery.

Re: Male factor / trying naturally for next pregnancy
Dh and I tried for 3 years with no luck. The third year I monitored ovulation with opk's and My ovulation is always on schedule. Dh has low motility, low count and poor morphology. We went straight for ivf and got lucky and DS was born. No embryos left for freezing though. I feel like we will never be able to conceive on our own.
