what did you do after the close?
we are closing this week, and I was wondering if you did anything to house you bought as soon as you closed? like change locks, alarm systems...etc...this is ALL NEW TO ME ad so nerve wracking!!

Right after closing? Went back to work 
We didn't get the keys until 3 days after closing but the night we did, we did the final walkthrough, DH changed the locks on the front and back doors, and changed the code on the garage door. We didn't move in until 1 1/2 weeks later so we would go to the house to paint and spackle some holes but otherwise, the previous owners left the house in great shape so we didn't really have to clean much.

DH called LIPA and the water company before closing to give them the day we were getting the keys. LIPA then came the day we were getting the keys to read the meter so they could be sure we weren't paying for the electric that the previous owners used. The sellers filled up the oil so we didn't have to worry about that for a little while.

I called LIPA, the propane company and SCWA the day of closing, or maybe the day before, to make sure the utilities stayed on for us.
The night we closed our families and some friends came over for pizza and champagne to celebrate.
After we closed, and before we moved in, we changed the locks, painted, and refinished all the floors.

Went to home depot and bought new locks/keys for all the doors in the house. We then grabbed some food and went back to change everything.
Why take any chances.

I called 2 days before we closed (so basically when we got a date) to let them know of the closing date. They were there at some point that morning, probably before the walk through. That's all I had to do. They were very insistent to call them the second anything changed.
It was much easier then I expected. Also, when I called LIPA or national grid I didn't have to call the other, they notified them on their own. Sorry I can't remember which one I actually called lol.

Went back to work, then went home and had a drink. I felt in shock and poor lol. Sort of holy sh!t, I can't believe it's over. After that, the house was majorly majorly cleaned since it was brand new near perfect rennovated. We changed locks.

I come from a long line of crazy European neat freaks lol. My mom is OTB (off the boat). I got my very able nona, mother, mother in law and a couple of girlfriends who come from the same crazy rearing and they helped. I just can't trust a cleaning company. I think now that my psycho self would be cleaning for the cleaning lady and after the cleaning lady. Plus cleaning is my therapy...dear god I need help really though, it was a new house so the It was only dusty and just needed a disinfection from top to bottom. We didn't rennovate any room, or paint so it was easy. Everything was brand spanking new.
However we will be buying another house soon and because I love old houses (pre 1900)the next one will either be in need of a rennovations or deep cleaning. In that case I would hire a company first to start the deep cleaning process and yes, I'd still clean after them depending on what needs rennovations and what doesn't.

Right after closing, we came home (SO EXCITING) and literally jumped up and down and hugged eachother to death. We then took our first picture outside of the house (nobody was around, so it took some coordination to get the camera on self-timer). Hah.
After that, we cleaned everything - every cabinet, etc., vacuumed, mopped, etc. THe house was already really clean but I wanted to make sure to get through everything. We changed locks that weekend after we closed. One day after closing, we brought in our things from storage, went food shopping, and prepped for Thanksgiving dinner which we hosted for 20 people. It was a crazy attempt, but so much fun!!!
In between, we called water, power, etc., and got those set-up. We ended up doing the address change for our e-mail a week before closing as it takes like 10 days to go through.
Take it all a day at a time and just remember it won't all get done right away - it takes time. We've been here for 2 months now, and still have things to get up, put in place, etc.

what did you do after the close?
We closed, went for a drink and then brought our moms over. Then during the next two months we painted, changed locks, redid floors etc.

We came directly home and took a picture with DS in every room (we were doing demolishing). We then had friends over and ate pizza while tearing up the rugs and pulling down walls. We didn't change the locks until the night before we brought our stuff there. Its much cheaper to do it yourself then a locksmith!
We called LIPA, National Grid and the water company two days before closing with our closing date.

Dh, my father and a whole bunch of friends changes the locks and painted all the ceilings. We were getting the floors done the next day.
I went to pick up my twins from the Nicu! It was one crazy day!

We changed the locks the day after (did this last time too) and had hardwood floors refinished the week before we moved in. SO much easier to do stuff without all of your 'stuff' in it, KWIM?

Oh my god - call ahead!!!! No one ever mentioned this to us and the day of the closing, as we were doing our final walk through, the gas company came to shut of the gas! Oops. It was fine, they didn't turn anything off, we just called the utility companies immediately.
First thing we did was change the locks and have a drink!

We didn't get the keys for a couple of days either. So I went back to work, called LIPA, Suffolk Co. Water, etc., and set up the new utilities as of the date we were taking possession.
After we did our post-closing walkthrough the day we got the keys, DH and I went to Lowes and bought a big garbage can, new toilet seats and light bulbs. Then we drank a bottle of champage on the living room floor and our families came over to see the house!
