Interviewing pediatrician

How many of you actually met with your pediatrician beforehand or went to the office? If you did go beforehand what did you ask them when you went?

If you didn't go beforehand did you call to register your baby with them? Not sure how all this works. The ones I am looking into are affiliated with the hospital I am delivering, so not sure what to do so they know when to come to the hospital once our LO is born. Chat Icon

Re: Interviewing pediatrician

I got 2 recommendations and met with both doctors. I knew immediately which one was for us. I wanted to get their feedback on immunizations, circumcizion and see if their beliefs matched up with mine.

Each meeting was maybe 15 minutes long- I would try and schedule one if you can Chat Icon

Interviewing pediatrician

I met with my dr who was recommended by a friend. We discussed how he ran his practice; office hours; his associates (nurses other drs); we were able to meet his staff; see his office; see how the girls at the front desk were; were they dressed appropriately; were we greeted nicely; sick waiting room vs regular waiting room; what do we do for emergencies or off hours is someone on call; and the conversation flowed from there which gave us an idea about what kind of dr he was. We were quite pleased and informed his office we were going to use them when I delivered. He was not affliiated with the hospital I was delivering in so we called when I delivered and was still in the hosp to make our appt for 3 days after our discharge from the hosp.

If the dr you choose is affiliated you have to let his/her office know and let your OB know, the hosp will call your pediatrician when you deliver.

I suggest meeting with the dr because it give you an idea of what kind of dr you are trusting. And if its someone you want to trust. Is it a dr that makes you feel comfortable? Is he/she patient? This is your first baby your going to have a million questions you want someone you not only feel comfortable asking these questions BUT someone who has the patience to answer them.

Google questions to ask pediatrician before giving birth youll get a big list.

I got a recommendation from one of the pediatricians I work with. We interviewed her when I was about 35 weeks and asked about insurance, office hours, coverage in case they were not there one day, vaccines, after hours, and availability at the hospital if ever needed.

i got a recommendation from a fellow LIF'er, did my own research about the dr and then decided to use him. I never met with him until after DS was born.

When i was still preggo, i called the dr's office to ask if i need to register and they said i didn't since the dr is affiliated with the hospital but if i were you, i'd call anyhow to make sure they're still accepting new patients and whatnot.

I met with them beforehand but it was not necessary. Didn't need to register with beforehand or anything. I just called when we were in the hospital to make our appointment.

When we were in the hospital they asked who what Ped we were using but since they didn't do rounds at the hospital we just used the staff pediatrician...

Eta: if you don't plan on meeting them beforehand I would at the very least call and verify that they take your insurance and are taking new patients...

I never met with mine. Went off a rec and figured if I didn't like them I'd switch.
