interviewing a pediatrician-did you really do this?

Just wondering if you really did actually interview pediatricians, or did you just pick one? Also, at what point did you choose one? I am about 34 weeks... i think we should pick SOON!

Also, if you did NOT interview a pediatrician... what did you do? It might be a silly question, but did you just call the office and say you wanted your baby to be a patient when s/he is born, etc? Chat Icon

we just went to meet them and get some simple info.. office hours, emergency numbers, years of practise. So far we found one that we like and we have one more that can become a back up if we find we don't like this one after the baby is born.

I didn't interview them. I went on recommendations from people I know who use them. So far I love them!!

ETA: I called them when I was about 38 weeks and told them I wanted them as my ped. They said when the baby was born to give the hospital their name and the hospital would notify them. They were there to check on her within hours after she was born and came everyday that we was in the hospital.

A friend of my mother (in the medical field) reccommended one. I trust her opinion and I am not going to meet the doc first.

I went from recs on the boards & met w/ one & we loved him so we decided to go w/ him. He would have seen DD at the hospital but she ended up in NICU so he didn't see her until 3 days later at her first appt.

We didn't really "interview" him b/c he assumed all of our q's b4 we had the chance to ask.

A lot of it is if you feel comfortable w/ them & if you feel free to ask q's. etc.

I went based on a rec., but I wanted to interview/meet them to make sure our personalities and views on certain things meshed well.

Re: interviewing a pediatrician-did you really do this?

I had intended to but I ran out of time. I gave the name to the hospital when I had DS and they contacted the ped. My ped is the on call ped when all babies are born so I saw right then and there how he worked.
His wife also delivered their 3rd daughter the next day so he was in the hospital the entire time I was there. He said to us a number of times that if we had any questions, they were in room 726 Chat Icon

Re: interviewing a pediatrician-did you really do this?

I'm using my pediatrician (like from when I was a child).
They're affiliated with my hospital, and my insurance takes them. If I don't like them, I can switch at a later date, but I don't get the "interview" thing- I would rather try them out.

ETA: We went on recommendations.

I did not really interview her. It was more to just meet her, see the office (see that they have a well room and a sick room).
I am glad we did, she was so sweet and passionate about what she does and she was able to answer a few questions I had about wipes, detergent, baby reflux, etc.
