Am I nuts for considering this?

DS is 5 1/2 yrs old
DD is 3 mos old

I am considering one of the following:

(1) driving alone with them to my dad's house in S Carolina (I'd either do it in 2 days or drive overnight - it's about 13hrs total)

(2) driving alone to a half way point, like Richmond, VA (about 7 1/2 hrs) driving overnight.

(3) sucking it up and convincing DH to splurge & buy plane tickets and flying to Dad's alone with both kids.

Looking to do this the week before Easter.

Advise? Suggestions?

TIA!

1 and 2, totally nuts. Sorry but that is a LOT of driving, combined with the unpredictable behavior of kids - the stress may exhaust you more than you are prepared for. If your DH can't drive with you, I would rather fly with them. Your DS is old enough to help on the flight and hopefully behave.

Am I nuts for considering this?

I personally wouldnt. I would be scared to do this with one child let alone two lol. But you know your kids best and if you think they will be fine then go for it but just count on a lot of stops. If it were me I would try to convince DH for those plane tickets though

Re: Am I nuts for considering this?

My parents live 7 hrs away & this summer I took my boys ages 2 & 1.5 up for 2 weeks. I would not attempt the ride without someone else with me just for the in case. You can get easily distracted if obe acts up & gets fussy. In my case, my mom flew to NY & drove up with me & then hubby flew up to my parents & drive home with me

i tell you what i would do...are you going to coastal SC?
I avoid highway and go up the chesapeake. mine love the 17 mile bridge/tunnel we get out and get postcards.
red lights help, i can turn around and see them
tons of parking lots to turn off into...places to eat. ha...let me know the dates-i am right off 17 and friendly-stop in and reload.
i just tell myself i have a working car, cell phone, roadside.

Only way I would do this would be to fly. Can your dad come up to see you instead?

After my ds just got the stomach virus in the car on a long trip I would say I would never take a long trip alone with 2 young kids. Yes it is totally doable but if something goes wrong it could be a nightmare. I would fly with a 3 month old and a 51/2 year old though.

Re: Am I nuts for considering this?

I would...Been to VA and back by myself with my son when he was 18 months old. And next year, I am driving with him to Florida. Will take 2 over nights..
It all depends on how comfortable you are with them being in the car. And how they behave in the car!

I would totally do any of them but I am pretty resilient and my kids have always been really lax. Only you know what you and your kids can handle but I don't think it's crazy.

I'd go for the plane tickets.

My sister lives in MA and when I go alone, I hop on the ferry! That's only 5 hours away.
In your situation, I'd be nervous about the 3 month old, crying, wanting to eat, etc.
I'm sure you can stop along the way, but, flying would just be so much easier and faster!
