It's either that or get it from Whole Foods. It just seems to me that baby food really doesn't have much in it..so why not make it yourself

Not crazy. I know a whole bunch of people that kept organic & chose to make their own. I am going to attempt this, but since I will be working f/t not sure how successful I will be at it.

I have friends that have never given their kids jar food. They say it is so easy because you can make TONS at one time and it lasts forever. My one friends used to store them in ice cube trays and just pop a cube out and defrost it when needed.

Not crazy! Lots of people do it.

I plan on doing it. Cook veggies, etc.. and puree them.

Re: Am I crazy for considering making my own babyfood?

Absolutely not. I made all of my baby food, only resorting to jars when I was on vacation or in desperate measures. Its super easy to whip up a few batches of puree and stick them into ice cube trays in the freezer. You can make two or three batches of puree at a time and that will keep you going for several weeks!

The most important piece of equipment you will need is a hand blender. You can steam some carrots, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, turnips. apples, celery whatever, blend, VOILA baby food!!!

eta...baby food in jars smell like dog food! I certainly wouldn't eat it, which is why I have decided not to feed it to my child!! Go get a jar and taste it! YUCKY!!!

FM me if you have any more questions!

I have to tell you that making your own baby food is soooooo much easier!!!!

SERIOUSLY...

Example: Carrots

1. Boil up carrots
2. Puree in Blender/Food Processor
3. Freeze in Ice Cube Trays
4. Remove from trays and store in Freezer bags.

When its time to prepare lunch you just pull out how ever many cubes you need and defrost in microwave.

As the baby gets older you just start preparing the same things that you eat in the same way...

I AM NOT a organic or whole foods type of person..I just felt that you were paying for so much water with prepackaged baby food soooooo when I had the twins I decided to try my hand at making my own...I found it really really easy and you didnt have tons of half filled baby food jars sitting in your fridge.

Feel free to FM with any questions

My SIL makes her own and said it is sooo easy! I thought she was crazy at first with twins and all, but now I am going to ask her to teach me for this baby! The kids really love it!

Nope, not crazy at all. I know a lot of people who do this - it is healthier and cheaper I think. I plan on trying to do this.

I am definitely going to do this. Its so easy to cook up some veggies and pop them in the food processor then freeze them. I want this thing and its only $10.

I did it with my DS. I would make everything fresh for each meal. I know, crazy but it wasn't that bad. You definitely should get a hand blender. It made things a lot easier.

Hey you can use regular ice cube trays...they work even better than any fancy contraption and they cost like 3 for a dollar!!!

You are not crazy at all. I will be making my baby food. Instead of giving my child the jar food I will make it myself.

Re: Am I crazy for considering making my own babyfood?

No - DH and I talk about wanting to do that all the time - we are vegan, and will probably need to because Cailen will be raised vegetarian until he chooses to eat meat on his own....

ETA - I ust bookmarked this thread so I can refer to these recipes and FM some of the BTDT moms!

If you have the time then go for it. I wanted to but decided not to in the end. I would rather spend that time with DD or DH. We used organic baby foods. Pricey but convenient.

Re: Am I crazy for considering making my own babyfood?

I would definitely do it. I have been thinking about it a lot lately. I certainly hate the way canned food smells as well when it comes to the veggies. The fruit in a can isnt all that bad.
