VENT: I hate unsolicited advice!

I know I should not complain because it was very nice of this person to think of us, but why does everyone think that because something worked for them, it will work for us. We are dealing with completely different issues.

This whole situation is frustrating. I wish I could be happy for people who are pregnant, but to be honest, it is VERY difficult for me. We have been trying for 26 cycles and now we are in a holding pattern for a month to see if the medicine the urologist put my DH on works. Fingers crossed.

VENT: I hate unsolicited advice!

sometimes, people give unsolicited advice because they don't know what else to say and they are uncomfortable. in order to have that akward silent moment, they say anything. not saying this is ok, but it could be a reason.
I'm sorry you had to go through this either way :hugs:

I can understand your point, BUT I have only met this woman three times in my life - she is married to one of my DH's college "friends". She lives in Colorado and sent us a package with a bunch of books about homeopathic medicines and a letter about how IVF might not even be necessary. She said how this regulated her cycle and let her get pregnant. We are not even dealing with female infertility - my cycles and hormone levels are fine. I respond very well to the IVF drugs. We are dealing with MFI due to cancer.

UGH! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This would annoy me like no other..

I'm sorry you had to deal with this. I agree that some people just don't know what to say, but that's awfully pushy and presumptuous - not to mention ignorant to assume that just because you're doing IVF, it's because of YOUR issues.

VENT: I hate unsolicited advice!

Sorry to crash, but my coworker who is currently going through If issues said one of her relatives told her to make sure she is picturing her husband during bding because if she isn't, her body will see his swimmers as foreign and reject them because it is morally wrong. People are CRAZY!!

Re: VENT: I hate unsolicited advice!

This is, in part, the reason why the only two people who know are my mother and sister (and they only found out days before ER bc I know if it was them going under/having any sort of procedure I'd want to know). I know keeping it private isn't right for everyone, but for me it has made things easier to not have the constant questions/comments. The only thing we get once in a while is 'when you are you having a baby' but I've come up with enough creative responses by now that most people don't touch the subject.

I'm so sorry! Unless you've been through MFI, many people just don't understand it. I mean, I didn't know half the things we'd have to deal with until we were faced with it.

To add my unsolicited advice Chat Icon ...MFI is a very slow process. Waiting 3+ months between different meds can be extremely frustrating. However, this is all leading you to your eventual answer/solution. And one day you will get your baby, you just have to try to focus on other things during all of that waiting.

Trust me I know! I was patient for about 20 months and now after 2 failed IVF cycles, I am losing patience...

Thanks everyone for letting me vent.

For our first IVF cycle, we told no one, but it was very draining to have no one to talk to about it. I am so open about everything that it was hard to keep it in, but I respected my DH's wishes. At this point, though, we do not care who knows.

To add, I never told this woman about our IF journey. They probably figured we are going through stuff since they know my DH had cancer in 2003.
