Destination Wedding Question...

I'm going to Miami from 10/3/12 - 10/7/12 for one of my girlfriends wedding. She is a good friend of mine and was a BM in my wedding. She is having a very small bridal party so I am not in hers. I'm totally ok with that and wasn't insulted in any way. I bought my own flight, rental car, and hotel and I'm going to have to eat out every night I'm there expect for the night of the wedding, which is actually during the day and at the rate I'm going I'm totally going to need food again by dinner time. Also, this is the weekend of the carnival so hotels and flights are more expensive.

With all this being said...How much do I give as a gift? DH isn't coming with me. I'm going with another girlfriend of mine. I thought I would give $300. A friend in our group got married (on LI) in April and DH was there with me and I gave that amount and thought it would be fair if I gave the same amount. My friend said I was crazy and that I don't have to give anything since we are spending over $500 to go down there.

What do you girls think? Do I give anything? If so, how much?

I would still give something, but maybe not as much as I normally would give. Maybe you can give half of what you normally would? Esp since DH isn't going with you.

I think $150.00 is more than enough with everything you're already laying out.

If you want to do cash, I agree with the PP. Definitely no reason to give $300 after all you've spent, and the fact that you're going alone. Unless you really want to and it feels right to you. Then absolutely do what you want. But if it's a hardship at all, you could also give registry presents (that's very common outside of NY for wedding gifts) or even a $50 gift card. We had a lot of OOT guests at our wedding and several gave us their presence as their present (which we were thrilled about, of course!) and some gave us something from our registry. The gift cards were fun too.

I would reduce the gift because your DH isn't going. Maybe down to $200. Unless, the gift is from you and your friend - then I would still give $300.
