Gift Etiquette Question re Destination Wedding and At Home Celebration

Friends of mine from work were married in the Bahamas in April. I was invited to their wedding but I couldnt go so I sent a "no" response and a gift of $200.

Now she is having a NY cocktail party for everyone to celebrate the marriage that took place in April. It is a cocktail party at a restaurant in Tribeca.

SO--my friends at work who like me have given a gift in April are in a dilemma

do we give another gift now???? I hate going someplace empty handed but i also already gave a gift

what would you do???

if it was a just at home wedding would you have given the same amt? $200 or would you have given more? if the ans is yes then no other gift is needed...but if you were to give $300 (let's say for example) originally I would probably get a gift off their registry to equal the $100 difference?!?!?!?! KWIM?!?!

I think you're good...you already gave them a wedding gift. If you are really compelled to bring something, maybe a bottle of wine but I don't think it's necessary.

you already gave a wedding gift and that is the point of the party to celebrate the wedding so you are good.

I would bring a card to the party. I think you already gave her a present.Chat Icon

I think since you already gave a gift you don't need to give money or anything extravagant. I personally don't believe that you should go empty handed to a party - BUT since you already gave something - what about a card and a small frame with a picture of the couple - or something small $25-50 off their registry or for their home, a nice bottle or wine if they entertain something small like that. This way you aren't going empty handed but you don't need to give an expensive gift since you already sent something.
