for all of you who are saying "paid 6 for vaginal or paid 8 for csection" are you referring to NYS disability?
If so, you realize that is $175 per week?
Those who are well versed in FMLA (cant believe I dont remember this) can you collect private short term disability while on FMLA and also collect NYS at the same time?
Also, is it true that you have to burn all vacation/sick time before FMLA kicks in? If this is true, would I use my 4 weeks and then get an additional 12 for FMLA or do my 4 weeks vacation/sick time count towards FMLA?
I get paid my salary through my employer and no you do not have to burn all your vacation sick time first.

Will you have to work those hours after baby is born?
My old company was 12 weeks full pay, but it was a draining job. No one would be able to come back after 6 weeks
I have been working what they consider part time (although really it is about 45 hours a week (sometimes more) with Fridays generally off) for the last year. This is my second. I could not do what I did before with one child, nevermind two. Even now it is a constant juggle.
I agree with you, there is no way I would survive coming back to work after 6 weeks here - no way at all.

Re: How much time are you taking off from work
Only the 6 or 8 weeks........
Because first week is waiting period anyways using my vacation days...... and STD policy is only 60% of salary, so if I end up on the 6 weeks, it basically feels like 2 week unpaid already.
With dc#1 I was ready at 6 weeks to go back to work for mental stimulation anyways.
ETA- my STD is actually the new york state disability(like $175 week) plus the STD to totally 60% of salary.... my coworker said thats why he and his wife haven't had kids yet.

Re: How much time are you taking off from work
I get no paid maternity leave, only saved up sick and vacation time. I plan on taking off at minimum 4 months to possibly 9 months. This is my last baby and I want to be able to enjoy it!
With my other's i took off around 3 months with each.
Money will defintily be tight, but it will be well worth it in the long run.

I'm starting a new job and don't get paid maternity leave. That being said, I'll be taking the minimum 6-8 weeks.
