Just had his first one yesterday at 4. Would have wanted to start at 3. The instructors told me that they won't remember much before age 3 but it doesn't hurt to get them comfortable with the water.

What age did your LO start swim lessons?
Good to hear. Some colleagues have started their LO's as young as 6months so I wanted to know if that was the norm and it doesnt seem to be.
Would love to do a mommy and me class with him, as he's almost 9months old and rarely around kids as young as he is. Any recs for places in Nassau or Queens?

We started mommy & me at 15 months. There were babies as young as 4 months in our class.

Im really interested to see how he does and what the value is at this age. Luckily Gymboree offers a free trial so we wont have to commit right away.

I started swim lesions at 15 months old for both kids. DS is 5 years old and can swim, but he needs to refine his technique. DD will be 3 in 2 months and can float, gets her face wet.
I would start lesions at 15 months-2 years.

What age did your LO start swim lessons?
i wanted to do this earlier but we haven't yet at 14m. i just feel like she wont retain anything at this point and i dont need to pay money to get her used to the water, i can do that myself. so far she absolutely LOVES the pool. we have a baby pool that she loves and i take her to a big pool at a friends house and she can spend an hour in the tube and then i take her out and hold her in the water for at least a half hour. she does great and we usually only get out because its nap time or eating time or the weather turns.
i think im going to wait til shes 2 or 3 to get her real lessons.

We started at 12-months and have gone through two mommy and me classes and now we are looking into lessons since she seems so happy in the water.

We are also doing swimming lessons at 9 months old at eisnehower park aquatic center. 10 weeks for $55.00 Great deal!!!

What age did your LO start swim lessons?
We started Mommy & Me swim lessons just recently when DD turned 1. It was a 6 wk class with Saf-T-Swim. We'll continue with the next mommy & me level called Down Under that teaches us how to get the kids accustomed to being underwater. After that we will likely do private lessons.

Private lessons at 12 months and again at 23 months. DS can swim from me to the wall or steps (about 5-6 feet)on his own underwater. It's amazing what he retained from his first year of lessons, he was swimming on his own by day 2 of lessons this year.

We attempted it at 8 months but it was a disaster. We are going to try again in Sept., DS will be 16 months.
