1st time mommies-Do you read the Parenting board and get scared?
OMG...I just finished reading some of the post there and Im so freaking scared now lol. there is so much to know. So many things to do and so many things that you shouldnt do. It is so overwhelming...

It might seem overwhelming at first but really, common sense and mommy instinct are SO STRONG - it is so unlikely that you'll screw anything up  We are always here to give advice, and hopefully you will find an amazing pediatrician who will guide you through your little one's stages.
Take it day by day and remember, all your baby needs is food, warmth, a safe place to sleep and LOVE. Everything else is just gravy

Thanks I mean, I know I'll be fine and I have a lot of family and support it just seems like there is SOOO much to know. Though I know a lot of it just comes with practice and instinct. And yes, I am very glad for you ladies. I have learned so much for you guys!

So true!! It definitely can seem SO overwhelming before you've been through it. Everyone goes into it feeling like they know nothing! And then, a few months in and you feel like a seasoned pro Seriously though, I found our pediatrician to be an unbelievable help and guide with everything, especially in the first year or so. She was great at answering any questions we ever had, no matter how dumb it made us feel to ask  . She is awesome and I agree with LB that it's really important to find a good pediatrician you can trust. I also found it helpful to read some books like What to Expect Baby's First Year. And it really is true what they say- mommy instinct is a powerful thing! And I definitely recommend taking a baby care class- they can be really helpful too! There are plenty of resources out there!

I was overwhelmed just before DS#1 was here from reading all that...but I just went with the flow day by day and it is FINE! Now we are expecting #2!!

I did when I was a 1st timer and I was scared to death, but I was also prepared for some unexpected things from reading it as well. The moms on Parenting are such a wealth of knowledge! I will say though, adn i'm sorry fellow btdt mommies on parenting, that there is not a lot of room for bullshitt. If you ask for the truth you get the truth, and you get from many women in varying stages of mommyhood. It's not a bad thing, but having been on TTC, pregnancy and then parenting I noticed a big change in the personalities on parenting. Just keep in mind there is a lot of experience and diversity in the size of the family, the ages of kids and so on.
Trust me when I say these women are a lifeline at 2am and you don't know what the helll to do because your kid is throwing up, cutting teeth, won't nap, just emptied a container of desatin and baby powder everywhere, and so on.

I actually subscribed to Parents magazine, and I enjoy it very much.

I think a lot of it depends on your personality on how you handle the whole thing. If you get overwhelmed easily with other things you probably will with a new baby.
If you are more of a go with the flow type person they you might handle things better.

I do read it more often now and it depends on what is going on. My heart aches for the struggles that some of them are going through and some of the other questions I say to myself "yes!!! I wanted to ask this too!".
I am sure that we will all join that board and be there for each other. either than or I am googling the Sh!t out of everything.

Yes. I stopped reading a while back but i plan to read more whrn im less anxious. Parenting in general scares me. I find myself daydreaming about his high school and college yrs and baby is not even born yet!
Im a 3x aunt so i know the basics but people keep telling me its different when they're yours.

Thanks everyone. Its good to know Im not alone. Yesterday was really the first time I sat down and started reading through the post and I was so scared lol. I think I'll stay away from that board for a while..

This is so true. I was scared too; I think it's completely normal to feel that way. But things just come to you. I can't explain why or how, but the motherly instinct does come to you!!!! You'll be a pro in no time!!!

I felt the same way when I was pg with DS. I had NO idea what half of the posts were talking about and it scared me and made me think I was totally unprepared and unqualified for motherhood.
Once I "crossed over" though it was such a huge help with questions and concerns I had. Don't worry, everyone is helpful and along with the help of you pediatrician and mommy instinct, you'll be one of those seasoned mommies giving advice to others in no time
