Why not just pick a local realtor? I think that would be your best bet.

It depends on why you are looking for appraiser, but if for a legal reason a realtor can't do appraisals.
You can look into Given Associates in Hauppauge. They are an appraisal compnay that has been in business for over 40 years. 631-360-3477

Re: Can anyone recommend a Real Estate Appraiser?
yes, I'm still close by (thanks Melissa :) )
What is the purpose of the appraisal? I ask because I'd rather save you the $$ if a comparative market analysis from a realtor would suffice. Also if you need the appraisal for lending purposes (refi, heloc, etc), your lender would need to order the appraisal through their proper channels.
For non-lending uses (like a tax grievance), you can hire the appraiser yourself.
I'd be happy to talk with you about whether or not I think an appraisal would be worthwhile for your purpose. Feel free to FM me.
