Anyone's CAC not work well today?
We had our CAC installed last year. We have an 18SEER, 2-stage, 30 ton unit for about 1400 sqft. Has always worked great, except for today!
Today the house did not cool below 75. We had the thermostat set to 70 all day and it never went below 75 upstairs and downstairs was 79 (downstairs is always 3-4 degrees warmer). Now that the temps are better outside the house is cooler and down to 73 upstairs.
DH thinks this is normal as it was ridiculously hot and humid today. I don't think this is supposed to happen. Shouldn't the house cool to whatever temp we set it to no matter what?
WDYT?

3 ton might not be large enough for that size house. I have 2400 square feet and I have an 18 seer 5 ton unit. House was ice cold set at 72 degrees. My CAC guy told me that 5 ton might not cut it, but I didnt want to go two zone so we took a chance. Luckily the system he put in is working great.
My last house was about the same size, 1400 square feet, and I had a 4 ton. Didnt have issues there either.
Your CAC company needs to do one of two things. Add supplies (vents that blow the cold air), or increase the overall charge of the system.
I did have to have the charge increased at my last house when we had a super hot day. Had the same issue, didnt get lower than 78 regardless of the setting. After they increased the charge, I was good.

Re: Anyone's CAC not work well today?
FYI, LIPA has reduced power to avoid widescale blackouts and brownouts.
Yesterday was a record setting day for power all over the North East. They have had to reduce power for all because the demand is taxing the grid.
It's most likely not your CAC. I wouldn't worry about it yet.
A friend lives in Chelsea, residents and businesses were without power for 7 hours yesterday because Con Ed was overloaded.

Definitely not your CAC as we had the same issue yesterday. DHs uncle owns a CAC company & said nothing is wrong with the unit but bc lipa reduced energy & the heat.

Ours wasn't working midday yesterday, we called and they said it was normal. It was working by the time we got home from a rehearsal dinner.

Definitely not your CAC. I have a 3 ton unit for my 1880 sq. ft. house and it's perfect size. During the day, I keep it at 78 and even at that, it had a hard time coming down to that degree.

I don't understand how this is possible. If they are reducing power... then the CAC just wouldn't operate.
The CAC requires a certain amperage and watts to operate. It's not like if LIPA scales back the power your unit won't run "as cool". It just won't run.
My CAC is fine. Ice cold in my house. And I have standard 200A service just like anyone else has.

Exactly. Con Ed was doing the same thing in NYC. They call it 'voltage reduction'..but it's pretty much a brownout. They do a reduction in power/voltage to prevent blackouts.
