Do you like to cook? Do you ever worry about making healthy meals when you have LO?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Last night DH got really mad at me. I really don't care very much about what I eat and I could eat cereal for dinner for all I care. DH ends up usually preparing something. Nothing great though. Mostly a jar of sauce, hot dogs, eggs. Nothing homemade ever.
I know that I need to really start to cook every night when I have LO and it makes me really nervous to have to prepare something for every night of the week, especially after coming home from work.

I do like to cook and fortunatey DH does too. His schedule is more condusive to a heart home cooked meal!

We have talked about meals/food with a LO...
One of my sister's does everything everything fresh, organic produce... its A LOT OF WORK!!

I think we decided that we will do the best of both worlds and the best we can!

I like to cook, much more than my mom Chat Icon I mean my mom always had a home-cooked meal on the table but it was probably 80% store bought, boxed items.

DH's mom has the ability to look in the fridge at a couple of mismatched items and whip up a tasty meal. DH has this ability as well and sometimes it is quite irritating!

Anyway, since being married, I've found that it is easy to make meals one night and freeze the rest. Then, we live off the pre-made sauces, stews, and soups until we run out and then I'll make more and repeat.

We do make a conscious effort to sock our fridge and pantry with lots of fruits, fresh produce and healthy snacks. Since I moved out of my parents and do the food shopping, I'd rather spend my money on ground turkey and plums than Doritos and ice cream. We don't deprive ourselves of everything that is tasty and delicious but I only buy those items when they are on sale.

We want our kids to grow up and be healthy since high cholesterol runs in both our families Chat Icon I read that a child's eating habits for the rest of their lives are formed by the time they're 3 yrs. old!!

Wow, you just described my cooking style. DH and I dont really "cook" he can live on cereal every night and I can live on a can of spaghetti and meatballs. I think about this a lot once a LO comes along. I know I would have to start making changes to my cooking/eating habits since I'll have a little mouth to feed. Its going to be a challenge but Im sure I'll get the hang of it. I just think of my mom when it comes to things like this. I remember her telling me when she married my dad she couldnt boil an egg....three kids later she figured out how to cook and now I love her cooking. I think its just a matter of getting use to it.

Im the cooker, dH doesnt know much just your typical guy things. He just upset when he has to cook for himself, which is rare.
Im already a mom and have to say yes you can cook healthy and all but, what it comes down to is your child's taste buds. They go through phase where they only want nuggets, pancakes, etc... Something you have to handle and work with the child caus eyou dont want to completely push them away from other foods. Also I always make him, or my kids at school, TRY things if they don tlike it fine but, that works often and they tell me they like it.
You never know what will happen but, I only hope my kid will eat what I makeChat Icon

This is definitely something that I worry about. I love to cook and like to make all kinds of different things. While I have some favorites, I don't like making the same things over and over. I just hope that I have kids that are somewhat adventurous in what they'll eat. I don't want to have to make chicken nuggets on a daily basis! Time will tell!

I used to love to cook, now it is a PIA because DS is always tugging on my leg, or I am out and about and don't get home in time to make a decent dinner. I always cook healthy, but we do eat a lot of left overs.

Left overs is good. I cant stand when parents pick up their kids and all I hear is what do you want for dinner Mcds or taco bell. Way too many kids have easy access too fast food and it is sad. We had to do a workshop at work, Im a preschool teacher and, there are soo many easy, , quick, affordable and healthy ways to cook. Plus you can always cook most meals in a day, In know for that.Chat Icon

I have to say, my DS is 17 months and has never had fast food, ever. Unless you consider Pizza fast food. I don't eat, and haven't in over a decade, so I don't feed it to my child.

Love hearing that, lol. Funny you say Pizza, when I was growing up Pizza was "our" fast food but now a days I dont think it is... it is healthier then Mcds, Burger King or any of those places.
