Vitamin D Defincincy
Anyone else experience this?
I have been taking pre-natals for 6 months (just really starting TTC this month but been off pill so wanted to take as a precaution).
I had an annual physical - first time ever - yes, I know terrible - and found out I am Vitamin D Deficient. My mother and sister are too.
My question is, why would I be deficient if I am taking this vitamin and eating a very healthy diet?
Anyone else have this?
I have a docs appt in 2 weeks and will discuss then....

Go out in the sun!! Great source of it! Your prenatal might not have enough in it. Do you eat eggs? That's another good source of it.

Re: Vitamin D Defincincy
Same thing with me. The blood test came back deficient in vitamin D. My GYN out me on Vitamin d pills every day IN ADDITION TO my prescription pre-natals.
My understanding is this is SUPER common.
I was OTC prenatal for almost 9 months beofre this, AND on REGULAR vitamins for years.
Noting to worry about. Your doc will probably put you on vitamin d pills.

Yep. I have a Vit D deficiency too...Dr. prescribed a high dose of vit d for a while then retested my blood and it came out good. She did ask me to remain on vit d 1000mg every day for the rest of my life though. I have heard this is common.

I have this too. My dr. made me take a higher dosage as well, but I never went back for more bloodwork. I will probably go back to 1000mg now that it's summer.

Re: Vitamin D Defincincy
Yes I have this too. Okay this is what you need to do, Dr's are barely aware of this and it is ridiculous!
Ask your Dr. what Vit D test you got, chances are it is only D25, INSIST they give you D1,25 as well, you are supposed to divide D1,25 into D25 to get the proper test result.
So honestly you MAY not be deficient because the two tests can balance each other out.
The second thing I would do is go to an endocrinologist and get tested for an autoimmune disease, people who have autoimmune diseases always have low Vit D and taking supplements can be horrible for you if you have an autoimmune disease!
It's like you have to be your own Dr. now.
I am the picture of health with totally regular cycles and O every time, but after 9 cycles of TTC I went to an RE and found out with my CD3 testing I have a thyroid condition called Hashimoto's disease which could be preventing pregnancy.
Second I just had a physical and found out I had the Vit D deficiency, knowing I have an autoimmune disease I now have to insist on the D1,25 test. Otherwise I could cause more damage by just taking supplements.
Vitamin D is found in sun, fatty fish like salmon, egg yolkes, some mushrooms, cheese, and some type of yeast. A lot of people have this problem, but doesn't it make sense to get the second test just to see? And it can definitely effect TTC!
Good luck!
