Wednesday QOTD
Do you plan on being a SAHM, FTWM, PTWM, WAHM?
What would be your ideal situation and what will be your reality?
To answer: I wanted to be a SAHM, or so I thought. Once DS was born, I missed working (go figure). I missed the adult contact, the brain stimulation, it gaves me a reason to get up and put makeup on and something other than sweats. I resigned from my long hours, high pressure job though while on Maternity leave. Got a new job, worked PT until he was a year. Then when back FT. I then found a job closer to home, 9-5 hours, and its perfect. Of course there are hard days where I wish I could stay with him, but Im lucky in that hes only in daycare PT and my mom has him the other days.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I so much want to be a SAHM. I am currently a FTWM and am away from DD for 12 hours a day. I work in NYC and once this next baby comes and I get my maternity leave, I will be seeking a job on LI, hopefully PT for a while and then I will decide what I want to do from there.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
Well due to our situation, I will continue to be a FTWM.
DH is the one with more flexibility, so he may be able to do the PTWD thing, or possibly even stay home.
Ideally, I would like to be a PTWM, so I can have the best of both, but I don't think that is a possibility.
ETA: I really appreciate the experiences of ladies who already have DC. So many people say that once you have a baby you will NEVER want to leave them EVER again. Maybe that is true, and I'm sure that urge to be with your child is always there, but it is nice to hear that there are some women who DID miss working outside the house too. I'm afraid that if I do enjoy having my job once a baby comes it will mean I'm a cold hearted mommy.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I would love to be a SAHM but in reality ill be a FTWM. I love my salary and DH & I have become accustom to a certain lifestyle (with two incomes.) Maybe we'll hit lotto and I can stay at home with my LO.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I am planning on be a WAHM (I am assuming that means working at home mom ) I work with computers and therefore only need to be in the office really only once a week unless something comes up. I am lucky in the fact that I only work 4 minutes from home, and my MIL is only 10 minutes away if I need anything. There is already a precedent in my company, its a small company and we have both men and women who work mostly from home so they can be with kids.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I wish I could be a PTWM but there is no way I can do that....possibly in the future when DH's salary goes up OR we move upstate. I wanted to be a SAHM until recently when I had a MAJOR reality check w/finances.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I work part time in an office and part time from home, I plan to work and bring my LO with me since I want to BF. It's a very very small office and I'm there alone alot so it shouldnt even be an issue.

DH and I decided I will be a SAHM. Once in school I will probably get something part time.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I would love to be a SAHM but it's just not possible. My salary is higher than DHs and we would continue to need both to maintain out mortgage, bills, etc. So I will be a FTWM

I am going back to work full time. I am not wired to be a SAHM. DH if he wants can take that roll.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I always thought I wanted to be a SAHM, now that we are trying I wonder if I would miss the extra salary and if I would go stir crazy at home. I think DH would like me to be a SAHM because that is what I want, but he feels alot of pressure since that would make him the sole "provider". Having always been independant it does scare me a little to have to be 100% reliant on someone else financially. At the end of the day, I plan to go on maternity leave and decide after that if I want to go back. Its really the commute that make me not want to work- tacks on another 3 hours to my day plus the hours are 9-6- I feel like if I worked I would only get to see my child on the weekends :( If I could have a job share, that would be an ideal scenario!

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I would love to be a SAHM for a least the first year and then maybe go back to work either part time or full time depending on our financial situation. In reality though I am not sure if this would work for us financially. We will have to see.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
I'm hoping/planning to be a SAHM for as long as we can swing it. I feel guilty about wanting to give up a great job, especially when we have family volunteering to watch our LO but it's what I've always wanted. The ONLY good thing about ttc taking so long is that we've been saving as much as we can to make this possible.

Re: Wednesday QOTD
good luck to all of you and I hope whatever you want to do, works out for you!
I can tell you, that if you dont want to be, but have to be a FTWM. It does get easier but will always have its hard days, but for the most part, it just becomes your new normal. DS is happier than I couldve ever asked for at "school" and has so much fun playing and learning all day. Im not going to lie, I also learned to savor the time I can drink my coffee in peace, go pee without someone trying to break into the bathroom and not having to put my coworkers in time out for their daily infractions.
