FTWM and working out
If you are a FTWM, when do you work out??? And how often??? I have a 2 year old. . . Teach full time, and also do EI and CPSE/CSE work after school/at night/on weekends. DH goes to the gym at 5 am. I get up around 5:30 get myself ready. . . wake DS up around 6:15 get him ready and we are out the door by 7 so I can't go in the mornings. I get home b/t 3:30 and 5 most days, rush to cook dinner, and then go back out to work some more in the evenings. The past two days I have gone to the gym after my EI case, but last night it kept me up until 11:30. Tonight, I am feeling the same way. I would ideally like to go 6 times a week. DH tried DS at the babysitting at the gym he goes to and he cried so much they called him. I am going to try to take DS to my gym with a friend of his (and mine) so he has someone familiar in the babysitting. But I am still wondering how I am fitting this in. I need to make this a priority though . . because my health is more important at this point!

Re: FTWM and working out
I work Full time, and DH is not home on Monday nights.
I usually work until very late on Tuesday nights...
Here is my schedule, ballpark:
Monday - (DH not home at night) Cailen wakes up at 7, 7:30 I get him and myself ready, drop him off at daycare
I try to be at work by 8:30-9 I work until 5 Get Cai from daycare by 6 He's in bed between 8:30-9:00 I do a home workout (either pushups, abs, weights - now I do a P90X DVD) - I try to get to bed by 10 or 10:30
Tuesday - Cai stays home with DH all day
5:15AM - Spin class Work by 7:30 - I work until 5 pm some nihgts, 7 pm some nights, and 9 pm some nights
Wednesday - Cai goes to daycare
7:30 - wake up - get myself and Cai ready, daycare by 8:45
9:30 - I teach a Zumba class
Work at 11AM
I either flex some time since I work extra hours on Tuesday to sneak in a workout for an hour before picking up Cai (around 3pm)
Get Cai by 4:30/5:00
Thursday - Cai stays home with DH all day
5:15AM - Spin class Work by 7:30 - I work until 5 pm
Friday -
Work from 9-4 Teach Zumba at 5
Saturday -
Teach Zumba at 9 I try to get a run in during the day
Sunday - Yoga class I try to get a run in during the day
It's a lot of work to juggle my schedule - I actyually have a blog chronicling my goal to keep fit despite my insane schedule

Re: FTWM and working out
I don't think I would ever have the time (and let's face it, motivation!) to go 6 days a week (although I would love it!!), but I go to an 8PM hot yoga class on average 3 evenings a week.
I also try to rotate in a weekend day, usually Sundays.
DH is usually home in time enough to watch DS and he is usually in bed between 7:30 & 8 anyways.
I am so not a gym person so this class is a blessing for me!!

Re: FTWM and working out
Thanks ladies. . . How do you get to sleep if you work out that late? I feel like I am on a high! Otherwise, I really don't mind working out in the evening. . .even though I thought I wouldn't like it!

Re: FTWM and working out
I work from 8:30 - 5:30. I have to be up & in the shower by 7 am to get myself & DS ready & out the door by 8:10 am. I have a very short commute to the daycare & my job. If I want to workout in the morning I get up at either 5:30 or 6am. Sometimes if DH is not home I will also workout after putting DS to bed. He goes to bed @ 8pm. This what I used to do anyway..... I haven't exercised since October!

Re: FTWM and working out
my treadmill is coming fri.
I am still on maternity leave and don't have time.
I also take a step class sun morning w/ my SIL and got a copy of 30 day shred. I plan on running the LI half marathon, so the treadmill will be put to good use. DD usually goes to sleep at 8/830, so I can run then.

Re: FTWM and working out
I am a FTWM (most of the time as I bounce between leave replacements, coaching and subbing right now).
But it was too hard to go to the gym even with babysitting. So we invested in an elliptical machine. Now there is no excuse not to go on it. At night when I watch my shows or anything on the DVR I jump on the machine for 30-60 minutes.

Re: FTWM and working out
Is there a way you can build it into your everyday schedule?
When I started after having Yael, I started slow by incorporating exercise into my daily activities. So, I would walk the mile to the train and back instead of driving. I would walk to drop off the girls at daycare instead of driving. And during my lunch break, I would take a 45 minute walk around the city. And, during nice weather, after work, I would take a bike ride, or a stroll with the girls.
It's not a "workout" per se, but a good way to incorporate some activity without it overwhelming your schedule.

Re: FTWM and working out
Thanks for posting this...I have been wondering the same thing. I am not back at work yet, but I am hoping when I do go back, I can hit the treadmill, stationary bike or do a DVD for 30 minutes after DD goes to bed. I can't see myself getting up any earlier in the morning I hope it doesn't keep me up all night.

Re: FTWM and working out
I am FT and single mom of 2. I work out at 8 or 8:30 at night using Excercise TV videos but my kids are not always in bed/asleep by then so it's not easy I got to bed around 10:30, and my other option is 5:30 am workouts.
I was really in shape before I was working FT and before I separated from DH, so right now I just need to do 30-45 min 3-4x a week and I am happy! When the weather gets warmer I will leave for work in my workout clothes, job for 30 min before I pick up kids from their after-school program.
You just have to find 30 min here and there to fit it in. Also, do things like park far away, walk for 15 min before lunch, climb stairs, physical play with kids, etc.

Re: FTWM and working out
Thanks for all your suggestions ladies. . .You all sound as busy as me!!!! I am going to just suck it up and go after my last ei case of the day. Lunch wouldn't work = I only have 42 minutes and really need to eat or I am starving!. My other 2 preps are in the morning so I don't have time to eat!
