would YOU take a month off??????

okay long story shot....dh and i are buying our first home/co-op... going this week to sign contract....and hoping closing will be middle of january.

okay soooooooooooo if all goes as planned...and as usual i am not pg ( beta thurs and neg hpts....totally for sure i am not pg )

i would be doing iuis in the middlish of jan or so.

well...for those ttc and those who bought a home..what would you do?

i work i have part time school and buying a home....oh and infertility treatments.

one part of me says...just take a month off....so if i need to lift heavy things i wont freak out...or if i need to run to bank/lawyer..i wont freak out if i have a drs appt. kwim?

on the other hand... how often do closings happen on time? worried i might "waste" a month if closing ends much later or god forbid if it falls through for some reason.

i kinda need to make a decision by this thurs..bc with my protocol....we start meds the minute i get af ( very wierd treatment long story) and i would need to talk to doc on the phone after neg beta that it will be a month off.

what would you do... advice totallllllllllllllllllllly needed!!!!!!!! tyyyyyyyyyChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: would YOU take a month off??????

That is tough. I don't know anything about closings, but we did take time off this month. I chose to use my winter vacation to come down to visit my family for a week and a half, and DH joined me for part of the time, but not during our fertile time. Truthfully, it has felt so relaxing, to not be stressing about all this stuff, though I am very much looking forward to January. It sounds like the stress of the closing, plus having to dash to the lawyers office and missing doctors appts, may be too much. Good luck in whatever you choose.

I wouldn't. Closings get pushed back and right now I'm too focused on having a baby to wait for anything lol I feel like I have waited for a million things and no more waiting for us!

But of course I can only speak for myself-good luck!

Re: would YOU take a month off??????

just bought a house a few months back and I would not take a month off. Considering its taking you a long time to get to this point (assuming you've been trying awhile that's why your doing IUI's?) I wouldn't take a break

as for lifting stuff- I wouldn't refrain from lifting everything. many mommys lift toddlers when they are newly pregnant and they can be heavy, so I think that you shouldn't be concerned about that

Closings NEVER EVER happen when you plan them. you could have a doctors appointment, a dentist appointment, work, school, the flu etc. you have to go on with life, don't let a date change your plans. make your doctors appointments. if your closing happens to fall on that day you change it, or the time, or the doctors appointment to earlier/later in the day!

your playing with 2 variables that are probably the least controllable. Just go with it and do what you feel in your heart.

We tried taking a month off but I really want a family, so I said forget it!!

I don't know how long you have been trying or how old you are. Those factors may change my answer. Trying 6+ months or are 30+ I wouldn't take any time off

It also might be a good time, because you will so busy that if it doesn't work out, you might not be so disappointed because you can't focus on it Chat Icon

Good luck and congrats on the new place!!Chat Icon

Personally I wouldn't take a month off for those reasons. If you needed it for your mental well being then I would say to definitely take a month off. Closings are always pushed back and rarely happen when you want them to! I am not seeing an RE though, so I am not sure how involved an IUI cycle is. Good luck in whatever you decide! Chat Icon

Re: would YOU take a month off??????

I wouldn't! First if you haven't even signed the contracts then the closing will probably not be for a month. A standard mortgage can take 30 days, FHA longer.

And 2nd....I worked full time, packed up a house, renovated the new house and TTC. I wasnt going through fertility treatments but the bank/atty appts can be scheduled around the others. Bank you can fax/email everything and same with atty....you wont have to run around to their offices.

Re: would YOU take a month off??????

The only reason why I would say maybe to take the month off-- is because closing, moving, etc. is very stressful-- and we all know it's better to not be too stressed out...

Although if you feel you have it all under control, and you can manage all the appts and other things you need to do without the extra stress-- there is no reason to take a month off IMO.

Re: would YOU take a month off??????

If you took a month off and the closing was delayed, would you regret it?

I don't know many ppl who have had closings on time. Things always seem to take MUCH longer than expected.

Personally I would not.
But you need to make the decision for yourself and what is right for one, may not be right for another.

Re: would YOU take a month off??????

Well, I would say no based on my experience...

We started TTC and househunting concurrently. I had 2 MCs during the search and one a month after we had gone to contract - all within 6 mos. I was trying hard not to do anything too strenuous. Then I started my first monitored cycle a few weeks before we moved. No way was I putting it off. I then proceeded to do all sorts of strenuous things during the move even joking that if I was somehow PG again, I'm doing everything they say not to do. Low and behold my BFP came exactly a week after we moved in.
