I have made this cake tons of times and it always get raves.

6 layer toffee cake

It is freaking delicious. I just do it as 3 layers although 6 layers would be more impressive. I also use the bag of Heath bar "chips" that are in the baking aisle instead of crushing up my own, since I can never seem to find them.

For Thanksgiving last year I made homemade vanilla panna cotta. I served it in martini glasses with fresh berries and drizzled raspberry sauce over it before serving. They were a hit.

my cousin's cheesecake (ricotta) not cream cheese recipe always gets rave reviews. My brownies have made people tell me that hate me after they ate 4 of them in one sitting.Chat Icon

Kahlua brownie trifle. Super easy, but people are wowed.
Bake brownies, poke holes and pour in kahlua and have soak.
Then layer cubed or crumbled brownies, with chocolate pudding and cool whip. Repeat layers as many times as you can in your trifle bowl.
Top with chocolate shavings (I recommend getting a bar of ghiradelli chocolate and using your veggie peeler to shave layers on top of your last coolwhip layer)
YUMMY!!!

Anytime I make my lemon/orange cheesecake, it gets raves.

it's easy, just add some lemon zest and orange zest to any cream cheese cheesecake recipe. it's very light.

Re: what's your most impressive dessert with the greatest WOW factor?

Betty Crocker Chewy Fudge - only use 2 eggs. Must be the chewy fudge mix.

beat eggs first, then add oil - I mix olive and vegetable oil and mix, then do the water. After all of that is blended put in the powder mix. Only do 50 strokes. Don't over mix. Pan should be glass - use Pam to spray. Cook 2 minutes less than the lowest time on the box. They will come out perfectly fudgey. Use topping of your choice when completely cooled. I like the Hershey milk chocolate frosting. If you follow the directions on the box, they will not come out fudgey and will come out more like a cake. Every time I make them people swear that they have to be from scratch. They are so good and easy.

Yes I make this too and call it "death by chocolate" but I use devils food cake instead of brownies and sprinkle toffee bits over the cool whip....I have to try the brownies sounds soooo good!

I'd stay away from the alcohol desserts... you never know if Mrs. Boss has an issue. I'd also make it in something you don't mind losing - don't want to make Mrs. Boss do extra work by cleaning your dishes.

laughing at the image of mrs. boss doing any cleaning at all, EVER. but ITA - they sound delicious but for this weekend I don't plan on making any sort of alcohol dessert.

didn't even think of the pan... i've lost many a springform pan bottom that way; thanks for the reminder!

i was gonna suggest a trifle. it's easy & gorgeous. and like quiche or pizza, you can put whatever you want in it, really. as long as you have a layer of cake and a layer of custard, maybe some fresh fruit or other goodies, you're good to go.

pineapple upside-down cake done in the cast iron skillet always gets a reaction when i bring it to holidays.

Re: what's your most impressive dessert with the greatest WOW factor?

Filled cupcakes. They look innocent enough.. but then you bite into them and suddenly you realize there is MORE! I made them Sunday and everyone has gone batty for them.

I am lazy so I play with the boxed recipes to make them more .. exciting. So for the cake I took a butter recipe boxed mix and added in some crushed almonds and some almond extract and baked. They had a real mild almond flavor that I loved. I also did a dark chocolate box mix and added expresso instead of straight water - so you get that extra depth of flavor. For the filling I made a raspberry filling - thaw frozen raspberries (I used 1 package) in about a half cup of sugar. when fully thawed, pour off the liquid into a measuring cup and add water to equal a cup and a third. Put in a pan and whisk in a couple of tablespoons of cornstarch and a little more than a tablespoon of flour. Taste.. if it needs more sugar add some agave syrup (or sugar). Bring up to a boil - it should be thick and bubbly - if not take some cornstarch and whisk it into tap water and then introduce slowly to the mix. Once it's a thick and bubbling pot of delicious you can introduce the thawed berries and stir. Let it cool and bake your cupcakes.

Once the cupcakes and berry mix is cool, cut into the cupcakes with a small knife at a 45 degree angle to make a circle. Then pop out the plug and fill the hole. The top should have a cone attached to it. Lop the tip off and put the top back on so it looks like a whole cupcake again. Once they are all filled - frost them. They don't look like they have anything in them.. but when you bite them you get a flavor explosion and get to see the surprise on all the tasters faces!

It takes a bit of time.. but not too much. And it really is worth it!

Here is a tutorial on filled cupcakes since I stink at explaining the cone method!
