** QOTD - 9.9.10**

Spinoff from yesterdays School question on FHF...

What type of school do you plan to send your kids to...

I know Shaun would like to send them to Catholic school, he went to Catholic schools his whole life... If we have the money I have no problem with that... but I also dont have any issues sending them to public school...

We will probably send our children to public school. We both went to public school. It all depends on what district we end up in. If the district isn't a good district then we will consider catholic school.

Re: ** QOTD - 9.10.10**

We plan on staying where we are, so therefore we will send them to Public. If we decide to move (again..ugh) it will depend on the school district. Good Q

Same here. I love where we live and the school district is great. Our plan is to buy something within the next 5 years, so hopefully we can find something in our area.

Re: ** QOTD - 9.10.10**

I like our public school, and actually our catholic school near us is way overcrowded and poorly funded, BUT I teach at an amazing private school that is way way too expensive for us. I will get a decent size discount, DH is just against it b/c he feels LO needs neighborhood friends and go to school with our friends' children, which are valid concerns. My school starts at age 2 and goes through high school. I plan on having LO starting at 2 and staying through PK, and then before K we can reassess where we want them to go.

Re: ** QOTD - 9.10.10**

Public.

I did both and I feel (in my area and IMO public is a better education).

We live where I went to elem and JHS and they are wonderful schools.

For HS I did catholic, and while socially I loved it, the education imo was not what I had in Public school.

I do love the community of catolic/private school. My friends in the neighborhood mostly went to our local catholic school and they have all been friends since Kindergarten which I love.

However, working in schools, and having gone to both I find public offers a wider range of instruction levels and programs.

It is a personal decision though and I can totally see why people prefer Cathoilc or private school.

depends. if we stay where we are, catholic school. if we move to a "better" area (school-wise) public school.

i went to catholic school my whole life and loved it, but i would only send my kid there if the public schools weren't great in my neighborhood.

Re: ** QOTD - 9.9.10**

We happen to live on a street where DD will have 4 options of 3 public schools and 1 private school and we won't have to pay tuition for the private school, just some related fees so we are opting to send her to the private school when she gets to that point.

Same here...

I went to catholic until 2nd grade DH went to catholic his whole life - we still would both prefer public for our kids and we have great neighborhood schools here.

If we had a bad kid I might try putting them in private/catholic HIGH school b/c generally they are more strict. I did not finish high school Chat Icon I got my GED and still went on to college but I want my kid to do it the right way. I wanted to make money and hang out with my friends, I didn't give a crap about school because I thought it was a waste of my time - but now I regret it a little bit, I missed out on my senior year, my own prom, having a high school graduation. Granted I was having a lot of fun while everyone else was in a classroom Chat Icon Hopefully our kids aren't anything like I was Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: ** QOTD - 9.9.10**

I was in Lutheran school from PreK-8 then Catholic HS in Queens. DH went to Catholic school K-8 then public HS in Queens.

We plan to send our kids to public school for at least elementary school. We will give them the option of private/religious school when they reach HS age.

Public School - We moved to a nice area and pay a lot in taxes to have good schools so I wouldn't send my kids anywhere else. Even if I had the money there is NO way I would pay to send my kids to a private school......college is expensive enough and I can't imagine paying for K-12th on top of that. I am in the Three Village SD and thrilled with that so it's public school all the way for my family. Chat Icon

Great Question... We are actually in the process of purchasing a house, and for the last year and a half chose neighborhoods based on the school district. So to answer your question...Public!

We both want to send our kids to Public School...DH went to public school and I went to Catholic School and to be honest I dont think you get any better education going to Catholic School. That is just my opinion.

Re: ** QOTD - 9.9.10**

We are fortunate to be in a great area, so public school.

If we were in a different area, I would consider private.

we bought a house in a good school district so we can send them to public school. however, if the high school continues to be drug-infested, DH might insist on catholic high school.

Re: ** QOTD - 9.9.10**

My siblings and I all went to public schools and had no problems. My brother is an engineer and my sis is getting her PhD...so I think public schools are pretty good Chat Icon It does however depend on the district...
