**** Tuesday QOTD ****

Now that we are TTC, DH and I often stress out a lot about our finances and worry if we are ready to support a third person financially. We both work full-time right now and I would LOVE to be a SAHM, but I don't think that we can support all of our finances on one income, especially in this economy. Having said that...

Will you continue to work or become a SAHM?
Being a SAHM would be ideal, but to be quite honest, it's just not feasible for us. I work in Manhatten right now and I honestly don't think I can continue to work here after becoming a mom. My day is sometimes 12 hours long including my commute, and I just couldn't imagine spending that much time away from my baby. Chat Icon Once I get my BFP, I will most likely be taking the steps to finding a job on Long Island to be closer to home.

If you will continue to work, what do you plan to do regarding daycare? Will you have a nanny, bring the child to daycare, etc.
I never realized how expesive chldcare could be! Chat Icon We will most likely find a reputable daycare center close to home that provides full-time care.

I'll continue working. I have the higher salary so we really need me to work. Plus, I go nuts if I'm out of work too long, so I don't think I'm cut out to be a SAHM.

If you will continue to work, what do you plan to do regarding daycare? Will you have a nanny, bring the child to daycare, etc.
My Dad may take the baby, but we'll probably go the route of daycare. I kind of prefer it for the socialization.

Re: **** Tuesday QOTD ****

I will continue to work because my job provides the benefits, so even if we were okay with the loss of my income, we need the benefits. Daycare is a concern. Currently, we have a good friend who is staying home with her now 1 1/2 year old, and trying for another. She would like to watch other kids for money to help with their expenses, and would charge a reasonable rate. DH doesn't work days in the winter, and I can have my summers off (mid June-mid August). So we really only need the 7-5 care mid August until the end of October and then mid April till mid June If DH, continues to work nights in the winter, he may still need to take the baby to daycare so he can sleep during the day. B/c of this need for flexibility, it would be best to get care from someone we know. Plus she is an amazing mom, and I truly trust her with my dc.

If anyone needs care out east, Hampton Bays area. Let me know!

Re: **** Tuesday QOTD ****

As a teacher I get a decent amount of time off. I will continue to work. My job and benefits is just too good to give up.

My dh has a very open schedule. He owns his own business and pretty much makes his own schedule.

When baby comes DH will take one day off a week or work from home that day. My mom will be taking off 1 day a week to watch the baby also. My aunt who lives 5 minutes away does not work and she is doing 1 day a week.

So we need to pay for 2 days a week at a daycare but I prefer to send baby to someones house who watches a few kids rather than a daycare establishment

Re: **** Tuesday QOTD ****

I just told my DH I would love to be a SAHM, the look I got told me that is not going to happen. I'm a nurse so I work only 3-4 days a week but its long hrs(12 hr shifts).
I discussed with my mom who is also a nurse that when I have a baby we will schedule ourselves so when I work she is off. Also my "precious" MIL does not workChat Icon Chat Icon so I will alternate with her as well, which the thought is killing me but it is his motherChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon but I think I will only do that the first 2 years then off to daycare for interaction with other kids beside her cousins or siblings(hopefully).Chat Icon

Re: **** Tuesday QOTD ****

Currently I am a SAHM only because my job said that I wasn't able to come back after I had my maternity leave..Long story... But I'm currently back in school and plan to become a ultrasound technician.. After I'm done with the schooling I plan to go back to work and my DD and hopefully the next DC will be old enough to be in some sort of school.. Other than that I love being home with my DD and I would not have had it any other wayChat Icon

My dream is to be a SAHM but finacially we cannot survive on one income. I am lucky in that I work 10 minutes from home and my company has amazing benefits.

If you will continue to work, what do you plan to do regarding daycare? Will you have a nanny, bring the child to daycare, etc.
This is the question that keeps me up at night even though we have not gotten our BFP yet. Honestly, I don't know what we are going to do. Daycare is very very expensive. I know that 2 days a week my dad can watch the baby and I have a cousin who is a SAHM that has offered to watch the baby the other days. But I really don't know how I feel about that. I would love for a nanny to come to my house but that is also very expensive.

I will continue to work - the industry I am in - I make more money than DH. I also have the benefits. The thing that stinks is that 2 weeks out of every month my job requires me to be here 12 hour days - don't know how that is going to work out for me

I am lucky that I have many family options for daycare - my mom, mil, my aunt and one of DH's cousins. I am very lucky when it comes to that - so even if I work long hours, I don't have to worry about rushing to pick up DC before daycare closes.

I love my career, but the hours and the commute are not feasible with LO at home. That said, I know we'll need the extra money, and, well, I feel weird admitting this, but I'll need the creative stimulation. Yes, I want nothing more than to stay home with my child, but I'm also a creative person who needs an outlet. So my plan is to go freelance and hope that I can supplement some of my salary, while setting my own flexible hours out of my own home office.

I wish I could be a SAHM but it's just not possible. We wouldnt be able to make it on just one salary so unfortunately I will be going back to work. I wouldnt mind it so much if I actually liked what I did.Chat Icon

I have someone that a lot of people in my family have used and trust so most likely I will be using her because she is very reasonable and close to my job.

I will be a SAHM. We're by no means well off but I'd rather cut corners and budget so I can be home with DC. DH feels the same way.

My plan was to take a year off of work but now that we are getting to mid school year due dates, I am really not sure. I really want to SAH with my children until they go to school. I always joke that I am not going back and DH tells me I am....but to other people he says I'll prob. stay home. Chat Icon

No idea who would watch DC if I went back to work! Hoping I don't have to worry about that. Chat Icon
