Please tell me this fear is irrational ...
I'm going in for my first IUI on Sunday. DH will be dropping off his specimen at 8 am and I will go back at 10 am for the insemination (DH has to stay home w/ DD).
My FEAR is that they will inseminate me with the wrong man's sperm!
Please tell me this is totally irrational ...

I can totally relate. I have a fear they put the wrong embryos back in! but ultimately that mistake would be so costly for them I think they are EXTRA careful....
ETA: GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!!!

That would never happen, they have protocols that they MUST follow to avoid something like that happening. There's so much more things to stress over, don't worry about that. It will be fine...
Good luck

Re: Please tell me this fear is irrational ...
I totally had this fear too! But the more experience I had with IUIs, the less fearful I was, because I saw all of the steps they take to make sure they are giving you the right sperm. At my RE's lab there was a code number on the cup DH had. I wrote that code number down and brought it with me so when I picked up the specimen I could check to see that the code on the specimen was the same -- it always was. They also had a copy of my DH's driver's license and signature whenever I picked up the specimen. We also had a good idea of my DH's numbers (sperm count/motility) after several SA's, so I checked those #'s as well to make sure they were in the ballpark of what we would expect (granted, they weren't the same #'s every time, but if he had 20 million one day and 17 million the next day, that would sound right to me... I might have worried if he had 20 million one day and 40 million the next! )
Good luck, and know that so many precautions are taken to prevent mix-ups.

LOL I thought the same thing too. They are very thorough and you check and recheck all the names and numbers.
GOOD LUCK!

I don't think its irrational at all. I know a little piece of me was wondering the same thing. It's very common as you can see!
Good luck!

I keep telling my DH that if this kid comes out and it's not his that he knows that I didn't cheat on him, he was in the room when the nurse did the IUI!!
We make a lot of jokes about it because that's how we handle stress.

Re: Please tell me this fear is irrational ...
I don't think it is irrational because this whole process is very overwhelming. I am sure all of us have put those thoughts into our head at some point.
Your fears should be alleved by the fact that these practices are super cautious. With us, the double checked, names, birthdates and social numbers a bunch of times. DH initialed the labels for his bottle when he gave the deposit and when it came time for the IUI, they confirmed that those were his initials.

I can see you being nervous about that. But, just try and remember that they do this all of the time and must have a pretty good system in place!
Good luck and keep us updated!!!!!
