WWYD...long
So, I work in Manhattan in a job that I hate!!!! I hate the commute and just hate getting home so late. But, I have a 25k insurance limit.... I am up to about 15k. I realy really want to find a job closer to home and I have put it off the past year because my RE is in the city and I wanted to wait and use up all the insurance. I submited a resume for a job close to my house working with autistic children... which I have always wanted to work with children and they called me for an interivew. I just dont know what to do, do I suck it up and wait in the city or do I take a chance and look for a job closer to my house and maybe put off going to the RE for a while. I know if you start a new job you cant be taking off to go to the dr. I I know no one can answer this for me.. but I guess i just needed to vent!

Re: WWYD...long
that is definitely a tough one
if you were to get the new job on the island, would you get healthcare right away? i think if it was me.. it would all depend on that.

Re: WWYD...long
I agree, do you know if you'll have IF coverage at the new job? If not, I would wait until you've exhausted your coverage at the current job before moving on.
For me, I knew I would not be looking for a new job because if I did get pregnant, I wanted to have all the benefits from maternity leave (or at least FMLA), and alot of companies require you to be there a year before you get full maternity leave coverage. That's why as soon as I have this baby, I'll be starting to look for a new job.

Re: WWYD...long
DH and I are in a very similar situation now. He works in Manhattan and he hates his job, he has been offered another job but he won't have insurance for 90 days. I don't have insurance because I am self employed. Where he is doesn't offer ivf coverage anyways and the new company does so we are thinking of just being w/out insurance for 3 months (which is scary), but I think it may be the right move for us.
Its so hard because going into work everyday and hating it is miserable, but on the other hand you have built up vaca time, maternity leave time, the insurance. I think you have to go with your gut.

Hmmm... If you want this job and get it, you can always pay for Cobra until your IF money runs out before switching to the new insurance. Cobra isn't cheap, but it is chaper than payong OOP for IF treatments.
Depending upon the location of the new job and what stage you are at in your IF treatments, you may be able to attend RE appointments in the morning before work if you switch REs. My RE's office opens at 6:30 or 7am. It was plenty of time for me to go for monitoring before work and still get there on time. Procedure days were a different story.
I would probably hold off on the job search for now. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the advice guys!!
I just joined my DH's insurance as well so now we pay for both, I would be using DH's insurance if I were to get a new job, but I would need to change Re's and probably take some time off from going to the dr's since it will be a new job. I guess I will decide if they offer me the job. I have been doing the waiting for the past year and everyday I come into work it is just a reminder that I am not pg yet and still waiting at a place that does not make me happy.....

I know how hard it is to be living in this limbo. As you said I would go on the interview and first see if you get the job and then take it from there.

Re: WWYD...long
I commute too and feel your pain!
Some doctors have pretty convenient monitoring hours so you may not need to take time off from a new job. If u do get the job, maybe u could schedule a consult w/ a LI dr before u start the LI job just to get the ball rolling?
I would def ask any potential employer when the insurance would kick in and see what type of info they could give u about the plan.
Hope it works out for you!!!

Re: WWYD...long
A $25K limit is A WHOLE LOT!
Sorry. I'd hold on to your current job. Hopefully, you will be able to take advantage of maternity leave soon.

Re: WWYD...long
You do not have to go without insurance due to a job change. You just purchase the COBRA until the new insurance kicks in. You never want to go without insurance- not for IF reasons, but for any reason.
