Co-Pays at RE

So the day of my IUI DH dropped off his 'stuff' 2 hours before I went in. I paid a co-pay for the IUI visit. A few days ago I received an invoice from RE for the co-pay amount for when DH dropped off the sperm.

Do all RE's double charge for the co-pay for the IUI? The invoice provided a breakdown of what was done (sperm washing...) but I would think that we would only be charged once.. Chat Icon

Re: Co-Pays at RE

i would think so also, but maybe because there are 2 patients it's considered two procedures?

Re: Co-Pays at RE

i think it depends on your insurance..I don't have a co pay for the IUI, i have them for the regular office visits.

Re: Co-Pays at RE

At the one office I went to, we took the sample to the hospital to be "taken care of" and they charged us a copay. At my other office we didn't get charged copays at all so I couldn't tell ya...but I imagine they would charge 2 because they are billing the insurance company for the "procedure" for DH as well.

I've had to pay 2 co-pays. Call your insurance co. to find out if its right.

Re: Co-Pays at RE

I have primary and secondary insurance, so it takes a long time to process and is somewhat different for me.

But, from what I've seen on my primary ins. EOBs, they charge a line item for the lab work (washing, I guess) and a line item for the IUI itself. Oddly, the lab work is always under a different doctor's name.

When DH had his SA done, that was billed to his insurance, under his name, not mine. All IUI washings were billed under my name.

I have to pay a co-pay and then in the mail usually a lab fee comes that I have to pay. (it's usually about the same amount as my co-pay.) Is it possible that that is what they sent you?! Check it out before you pay it... Either call the dr. ot the insurance company before you double/over pay.

Re: Co-Pays at RE

Thanks everybody. DH and I have separate insurance. I'll call both to verify and RE 's office too. Definitely don't want to pay them more than they already are getting!! Thanks.Chat Icon

Re: Co-Pays at RE

I never paid any co-pay for the actual IUI or the sperm dropoff since it was part of the IUI...just like I've never had a copay on the day of IVF.

But, every insurance company is different so maybe you do have to pay a co-pay for both.
