Fun Day choosing a layette.
Today was the day that I went to Denny's to choose Ed-lie's layette. This is a ritual that my mother could not wait to do. We had had an appointment for June 1, but she passed away.
So I postponed the appointment for a date in which my sisters, my SIL and my MIL could come and help as well as support me because I honestly did not know if I could handle it. On my way to the store, I got weepy and started to miss her terribly, but once I got there, it was easy to be pulled out of the rut because of all of the cute clothes. Was it necessary to do it there knowing they are not cheap? No. But it was something Mom had done for all of the grandchildren before Ed-lie and my sisters and brother agreed that my child should have the same.
My MIL already knitted a coming home sweater and blanket for her, but we knew we needed to pick a light weight onesie to go underneath for the ride home from the hospital (which is literally 2 minutes to our home). It comes with a hat, but Denny's had to call another store to get it. The hearts are actually pink and brown (though they look black in the picture):
We all had a fun day and went out for a ladies lunch afterwards. It was not the same without Mom, but her spirit was felt.

It really was fun once we got things started. I picked out a slew of stuff, lined it up and said "Yes. No. Yes. No."
We were able to find a REALLY nice stroller blanket that coordinates with our travel system in a nice beige color and is still pretty feminine. I got psyched for that.

Actually, we thought to pick out something that we know she would have liked. Mom was a typical older north shore LI housewife who liked tie-dye outfits with appliques and frills. Though not my particular taste, we looked for something along those lines so she could "be a part of it."

it's lovely leslie.
although i thought you would have gotten more of a "cheesy democrat in training" onesie for under the sweater. would have made for some great pics and i'm sure ed would have loved it.

Funny you should mention that because they had a onesie with a peace sign on it that was reminiscent of the 60s. Knowing my husband, had I purchased it, he would have hated it calling our daughter "Pinko" instead of the name "Pinky" that my 4 year old nephew gave her! I suppose thats what you get when your parents are Dharma and Greg.

Glad that you were able to share this with your sisters and MIL. I know your mother may not have been there in person, but I know she was there in spirit, and she always will be to guide you, Ed and your daughter to be.
