WHAT THE HECK??? UPDATE!!

So I went for my IUI today.
DH did beautifully. He always had very very high counts just low motility and low morphology. Well. Today, after the wash, he was 121 million with 95% motilityChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I expressed my concerns about missing O because we tested in the AM and the doctor asked me if I wanted her to draw blood to see if the timing is okay. And I just got a message from the office saying it doesn't look like I O'd????? They want me to come back in tomorrow but I am not sure what for???

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am very stressed and freaking out and I am on hold with the office right now.

Geez. So I just got the nurse on the phone and they don't know what happened. Apparently the person who called read the note wrong. My LH was 88 So I am ovulating like right now. So the timing was good. She said you could come in for a second but with DH's counts there is really no need and we should just have lots of sex tonight. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon GEEZZZZEEE way to give me a heart attack.

WOW! Those are AMAZING counts! Chat Icon

Did they do an ultrasound? Did it show a ripe follicle? If so, what size? It's possible you haven't ovulated yet, and that it might just happen tonight. An ultrasound tomorrow should show whether or not the follicle has collapsed yet.

Edited to add - you're seeing an RE, right? It's a little weird that she asked if you wanted to draw blood. My RE's protocol is to take blood at every IUI to make sure the timing is right.

Yes.. My dh is calling himself super sperm... Chat Icon Yeah hunny. Only after they wash it. Otherwise there is just a ton of confused, slow and mishapen sperm...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

They didn't do a sono. I asked it they do and they said no. Yeah I am seeing an RE. I don't know why she worded it like that?? Do you want blood drawn?? Maybe for people who don't have IF insurance they don't draw tons of blood for unmedicated IUI's because the OPK showed that there was an LH surge. Who knows. Because the nurse came in and asked me I had my blood already. So the nurse was EXPECTING me to get blood done before the doctor said anything. Whatever..

If your insurance covers it, I would go for the second IUI. My insurance covered all them they entirely and the cycle with the b2b IUIs was the one that worked! We didn't have MF issues (unexplained IF), but if you do, why not get the wash and go for it!

Re: WHAT THE HECK??? UPDATE!!

Great numbers! My last IUI I had blood work and sono's to ensure I was about to O and I had back to back IUI's. As long as it's covered you might as well go for it.

I could. But I don't know. It was a little stressful for Dh this morning and he doesn't do well with two day in a row. I also don't want to get to work late two days in a row. I am teacher and they are really being nice about it with me so I don't want to push my luck, you know. Maybe if it doesn't work this month I will do B2B next month. I think this month we will try the IUI with the old fashioned method and maybe try it different next month. The doctor said one was enough. It was the nurse who asked if I was coming back. So I think for this month I am going to go with the doctor. HOpefully it works.

Yeah. You go in for an IUI the first day you get your surge, and then the next day. But, before washing the sperm and doing the IUI, your RE should do an ultrasound to confirm the results of your CBEFM/OPK. They'll take blood that date as well, to confirm, and if all systems are go, you come in the next morning for the next IUI.

Re: WHAT THE HECK??? UPDATE!!

very interesting....I like that...gives it 2 chances to fertilize..then you go home and do it and give it 3 chances.

I guess if you are medicated then it could even be better..

interesting science..

Do some research before forging ahead, particularly if you aren't covered (like me Chat Icon ) - some studies show an increased chance with back to back IUI's, other show absolutely no significant difference, as long as the day you have the IUI is the ideal day.

that's frustrating. I guess I'll discuss with the doctor. Are you covered for IF or just not for the back to back?

I still think it's pretty interesting..I told my mom all about this stuff and she was blown away.

See that is why I don't think I should go for it. I had my positive OPK yesterday. So today was the day of O. I don't think tomorrow would do anything. Maybe if I had the IUI yesterday it would have made sense for today. Who knows?

Well, today was probably the O day, but have you been temping previously? Is that your definite pattern? I understand about being a teacher and maybe as the summer months approach you can be more available for those options. We do have great IF coverage though, if you go to a center of excellence! DH and I did medicated/triggered IUIs so we could have more control of the timing. We tried IUI without trigger and didn't like the portion of it that was a guessing game of sorts. Good luck this cycle!

Also, with b2b IUIs, we triggered and had them at 24 and 48 hours post-trigger. Most estimates say you will typically O around 36 hours after the trigger and based on O pains, I think that was about right for me.

Okay, My head is swimmingChat Icon What are triggers and do you do clomid or something first. hmmm.. I am so lost in this. I don't do temping and for the past 4 cycles I have seen the smiley face on day 15, like I did today. Before that my cycles were weird, maybe from the IUD removal and then from my m/c. Oh gosh. Hopefully this works and I don't have to think about any of thisChat Icon

Don't get too far ahead of yourself. If you ended up going on Clomid, right around ovulation a single shot is given to trigger ovulation and help time the IUI perfectly. Don't worry about this though until the time comes.

No, if you did back-to-back IUI's you wouldn't have your second one today, you would have had one on the first day you got your surge, and on the second day. Meaning, Monday and Tuesday, to ensure there are some spermies in there right before you ovulate, and immediately thereafter. That's why I test first thing in the AM - if I get a positive test, I wake DH up, tell him I need his "stuff", call the RE, schedule the IUI for that morning, and go right in, and then the same for the next day.

I'm covered for everything leading up to the IUI - all bloodwork, ultrasounds, medication, etc. Everything but the wash and the actual IUI. It ends up costing me $285 per IUI, or $570 per month if I do back to backs.

I HIGHLY suggest utilizing your company's healthcare flexible spending account if it's available to you, if you don't have full IF coverage!
