from what i heard on tv, he got shot on the street...he meet them halfway on his private property...
obviously, they weren't selling girl scout cookies when they went up the driveway....
Like I said....
There is a great unknown when you "FEEL" threaten by something or someone. To many varibles, most of which were wrong happened.....
Yes, John White did have issues with prehaps whites, etc...
You may personaly say you don't feel threaten by things here but I know I keep my guard and alert of my sourrandings...(sp)

I was recently in a store in Farmingdale I saw a kid walk by with a bald head... Jeans and a tshirt with red suspenders doc martins with his jeans rolled up and red shoe laces. NOW that screamed skin head to me. And I was sick to my stomach.
My impression of 4 guys with shaved heads and a mohawk...my FIRST impression would be walk the other way...don't want trouble. And I'm not saying they are the klan or anything like that, but who knows what is said behind closed doors. He even said that he used the n word quite often. Race was an issue here.
So, have a black and white issue on hand already with the white girl and black guy, add lots of beer, macho young teens and a paranoid man...it's all just sad.

My husband had a mohawk in 1995. He was no where near and is no where near a skinhead  He was a 16 year old kid.
look how many singers have mohawks doesn't mean they are skin heads
Thats what i said they were drunk underage never should have gone to the house and he never should have come out of his house with a loaded gun.

Exactly. I don't care if the person was a neon pink devil worshiper the bottom line is that John White got a slap on the wrist for taking the law in his own hands and taking a life. All of you that feel he got a fair sentence...I wonder if you would feel it fair if it were your own child God forbid.
Think about it Mr. White took an unlicensed illegal gun shots an unarmed person on his property because he "threatened".....even though he never called police and Ciccero never actually entered their home...2 years....no where near enough time IMO

Now we should use torture as a means of justice? Maybe you should reflect on why you feel that Mr. White should be punished in such a barbaric way. And, I know I will get flamed for this, but whatever, this kid Dano seemed like he would have had it coming to him in someway, from someone, sometime. I have to say following this case since I live in Miller Place and watching 20/20 has painted a different picture for me. I do believe that John White should have gotten longer then 2-4 years that is crap!! You could clearly see that the kids were at the foot of the drive way no were near the door or even up the driveway!! I believe that everything that Beth1210 wrote to be words that I would of written on this topic myself!! That being sad it is a sad situation for everyone but justice needs to be served. They should of called the cops that kids did not deserve to die that night. My heart breaks for the families but also dano friends that had to drive him to the hospitial.

Yes he smacked the gun away and yes he was drunk which is why he probably acted with no fear but HE WAS A CHILD. His father had every right to flip out over the sentence. I would be devestated too.
And if you watched 20/20 last night you would have heard the father say that his son was WRONG to go to the White's house. But he still didn't deserve to die.

I only read the first two pages, and this last page of this thread...
I'll probably get flamed for this, but here are my sentiments:
Tom (BabyBoi) - completely agree with your first post - no one has a right to judge b/c until you are in that man's shoes, you have absolutely no idea what you would do in a situation like that. We (including myself) have absolutely no idea what it's like to be a black person...yes, it's 2008 but racism is still VERY prevalent.
Oh, and just bc he's a "typical LI boy" and someone on this post (again, I only scanned the first few posts) called the teen a Guido....(I hate that derogatory term btw)...doesn't mean he's a "good" kid....I will reference TWO incidents that include "guidos" - one in Bensonhurst and two others in Howard Beach....IMO - it's a lot worse for a black person to come into contact with a gudio than it is with a skinhead...

Im soooo going to get flamed for this...
i couldnt even get through the entire show because i was so frustrated with the entire situation.
being a person of ethnicity and someone who has been the victim of hate words, i dont know what i would have done in this situation. if a bunch of drunken teens came to my house late at night telling my child -- the person that came out of me!!! -- to come outside so that they could kick his arse, well i'll be damned if i let him go out there! i would protect MY family in anyway i could.
why did the kids go to the house if they didnt have intentions of doing harm to Aaron? did they want to have a sleepover and sing happy songs? no. they wanted to do bodily harm!
such a senseless act of violence that could have been completely avoided had their been proper parenting involved and none of these kids would be out drinking and driving and having late night house parties!
let the flaming commence

Maybe John White has too much fear (as opposed to Dano's "lack of fear")...and that is why Mr. White overreacted and made a horribly inappropriate and wrong choice.
Just as you say Dano learned his attitude from somewhere, apparently John White learned his "attitude" from somewhere too, (the attitude that he needs to own weapons that are of deadly force to "scare" people instead of making an INTELLIGENT human ADULT choice of staying in his house, acting like a law abiding citizen and calling the authorities)

One was a stupid invincible kid, the other was a grown man who supposedly was peaceful, nice but afraid. Bull. If you are afraid, you call the freaking cops. The Whites know how to call the cops for petty little things (this is proven) but NOT A GANG OF KIDS saying they are going to "kill" your son????????
He was trying to act like a "tough guy" as well (taking the law into his own hands, walking out with a gun, etc), so why is HIS attitude ok? In the end, HIS attitude caused him to KILL someone, when he had many better options and the timeframe and means to do the right thing. And for THAT he deserves way more than what he got.

Here's one of many things that gets me...
Compare John White's sentence to Amy Fisher's.
Amy Fisher's claim was that the gun went off accidentally. (Sound familiar?) She was sentenced to five to fifteen years and served six after her guilty plea to an assault charge. Her victim lived.

I think the whole thing is sad.
The boys were drunk.... underage...They never should have gone to the house but they are kids and kids do things with out thinking.
I can't understand for the life of me why john white went outside with a loaded gun and how it accidently went off. He should have called 911 right away when the kids showed up.
Exactly, he was a grown man and if he was in fear of his life or that of his son's he should have locked the doors and called 911 immediately rather than confronting a group of drunken teenagers with a loaded weapon

This is the same thing at all-Amy Fisher went to someone else's house with a loaded gun and shot them. A group of drunken teens came to Mr. White's house in the middle of the night threatening his son. These crimes are not the same at all nor should they be judged the same.
