changing documents after marriage
So far I have changed my drivers license and bank acct. Ive been married 5 months. Is it an absolute necessity to keep changing things or can I hold out? I cant stand the lines!

The thing is...when do you think the lines are gonna get shorter?
If you hold out you might run into some snags...like if oyu go to pay by CC and hte cashier asks you for ID. I don't think there is any big deal in waiting though.

Other than your SS card, what else do you need to wait in line for? You can even get a new SS card through the mail. That's probably the only thing I'd change now. The credit cards were easy. Except for 2 of mine, I just called the companies and they sent me a new one right away.

I didnt know that you can do SS through the mail??? I thought I had to wait on the LOOOOOOONG line that wraps around the bldg. The DMV was a nightmare waiting and I "think" I would have to change my name on my registration and all....no? The credit cards I can handle. I am sure thats a quick phone call. Though with all the push #1, 2s and 3s...it could take a while.

Go to the SS website and they have a form you can fill out. The only annoying thing is you have to mail them your marriage certificate (but they're supposed to mail it back to you). I waited in line, but I went first thing in the morning so it wasn't as bad as it could've been. I changed my license and registration at the same time. It was a PITA, but I'm glad it's over and done. I think I was required to change them at the same time, but I live in CT so the rule could be different. I didn't need to change the title on my car though.

Re: changing documents after marriage
When I went SS...I didn't have to stand on the normal line because I wasn't trying to collect money... I went to the one in Freeport

Re: changing documents after marriage
I would NEVER mail anything to Social Security unless it went certified/return receipt requested!!! They have lost or supposedly never received toooooo many things on me in the past! I filled out all the forms & my DH brought everything down to them & got a receipt on his way home from work one day.
SS was the last thing I changed & did that about 10 months after I was married.
