Teachers TTC..

I see some of you are teachers. I have been doing so much to increase my chances and after a few months nothing. I think we are going to stop for now. I am thinking to wait until the spring again. What are many of you planning on doing? waiting or continuing. Back to school is so stressful as is without planning around the O date. Any suggestions, thoughts, or ideas??

Re: Teachers TTC..

We are toying with the same problem. If we don't get pg this month (meaning September - DD of May 31st ) or next month (October - DD of June 28th) we are going to evalute whether or not we will continue to TTC. It is sooo depressing to even THINK that we may have to make that decision. What if we do and then we don't get pg next spring either.. The whole thought makes me just cry and cryChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

The school year bears no effect on me.
I get pregnant when I get pregnant and if I need a leave replacement for an awkward time period - oh well!

Re: Teachers TTC..

I got pregnant last fall, due the middle of June. Perfect timing - except we didn't plan on miscarrying in November. At that point, I didn't care about timing, I just wanted a healthy pregnancy. Now I'm pregnant again and due in November. Is it ideal? No. Will $$ be tight while I am home? Yes, but we'll make due.

Take it from someone who has been there - do not try and plan your life around the school year. You will just make yourself more stressed out. There are no guarantees and I promise you won't be the first (or last) teacher to have a baby in the middle of the year.

If you are untenured the worst that generally happens is that your tenure period is extended for the amount of time you are out.

Re: Teachers TTC..

I am a teacher that is due in late September, this is not at all ideal for my job...however, I have learned that babies can't be totally planned. Don't try to revolve it too much around work, it could add to the stress level.

I was in the same situation, miscarrying this summer.
At first I tried to plan and then realized that all i truly care about is a healthy pregnancy /healthy baby whenever that may be. (hopefully soon :)

Re: Teachers TTC..

Life throws you curves. I do not let the school year dictate my life. School districts cannot expect everyone to reproduce in the summer. It would be great if we could all deliver in June and go back in September. I honestly wouldnt care if my EDD was smack in the middle of ELA testing. My family comes first.

I will continue trying you never know when it will happen, but if you feel Sept is too crazy of a month, don't try this month but i wouldn't put it off longer than that

I am not planning my life around the school schedule. Even though it will be more hectic now that school is starting again, since we've decided to TTC, there is no way I am voluntarily putting it on hold. I am untenured and if I am so lucky as to get pg, I don't care what time of the year it is. My baby is more important than my job.

I would love to be due in june/july...so we can have the summer off with the baby and I dont have to miss any school (we really cant afford for me to stay home and miss any paychecks) -So we still have a couple of months to be trying, but if it doesn't happen, it doesnt happen... what is meant to be will be, so I think we may still try. The only thing im worried about is that this is my tenure year and I need to be able to step into school of day 1 next year, but as Goldi said, family comes first... i love my job but, i work to live, not live to work...

All my planning to have a baby in March/April/May obviously did not work, at this point I'm just saying screw it, I just wanna have a baby whenever it happens it happens, I'll deal with coming back in the middle of the school year. Life showed me things can't go according to what I want all the time....

Re: Teachers TTC..

I started out trying to plan the timing so it would be optimal, but that didn't work out when I had a m/c. I put my family first and when we conceive I hope to have a great pregnancy and delivery, whatever month! I see a RE and that takes a lot of time with trips to the office, but I will do that and work it in with my school schedule without hesitation!

I am due at the end of April. We can't go without the money. I will end up going back in June for approximately three weeks. If I have a C-section, I will only have to go back for one week. I would rather not go back at all.

I got my BFP in Feb. We didn't expect it at all. I was supposed to start clomid in April. I'm due Nov. 15th. I'm kind of happy with that timing. I'll work until I can and then be out the rest of the year. Money will be tight of course, but we'll manage.

Re: Teachers TTC..

Well for me it is a $ issue. We get no paid leave at all. I have about 6 weeks of sick leave that I can take and then I am back to work. So if I want a longer leave I want to deliver spring or early summer.

Re: Teachers TTC..

I had planned to get pg in august so I would be due in may and spend the rest of the school year on maternity leave. Needless to say I am due in January smack in the middle of Regents week. Ideal? No. But who cares? I don't see women in other fields planning around a certain time period to make other people happy, so why should we?

Re: Teachers TTC..

I don't get paid leave either when I thought I did. I also did not think I would have to go through all I do to get pregnant. I never thought we would be one of "those couples" that would have a hard time, but we are. A child born at any time of the year would be a blessing. I simply do not have the option of waiting for a particular month.

People make it work on a lot less than what DH and I have and even still, some do it on one salary. It is amazing what two people can do when they have to. We may never have extra, but we will always have enough.

Re: Teachers TTC..

My first son was due in early November. I thought that was going to be such a PITA. I left on leave November 1st and returned April 15th. It worked out fine.

My second son was due in early May, which I thought was ideal. Left on leave on May 1st, and returned in September. It turned out that I enjoyed the November birthday and leave so much more! It was fun to be home for the holidays, and to return to work only for the spring, which is the most fun time of year in kindergarten (which I teach).

The point of my story is that there is no perfect time. Just ENJOY!Chat Icon

If you deliver over the summer, do you lose time or pay? For instance, let's say you deliver in early July, do you lose any paychecks? Chat Icon

No, we are off for the summer so why would we lose pay checks?
