Not TTC yet, but i have a question...
I've been on BCP for about 8 years now and have gotten sooooo used to having a very mild visit from AF. How far in advance should I go off the pills before we start TTC? I just want to know how long i need to suffer with painful cramping again.

I have noticed that everyone's body is different and everyone's doctors tell them different things. I have read that some doctors say to go off 1-3 or more months before TTC. We were told one month - bascially after my first natural period after no birth control. I would sooner ask your doctor than rely on what you read on the net, because everyone here will say something different. I get those horrible cramps that you speak of - it is no picnic!

every OB has a different opinion, though most say 1-3 months. Mine prefers to wait at least 3 months because, while many women get PG the 1st month off the pill, there's a much higher occurrence of miscarriage (b/c of the thinner endometrium lining).

Well, I went off the pill in May of 2006....it took my body months to adjust.
I wasn't actively TTC until Sept, so 4 months of unprotected sex and 6 months TTC. It can take your body a while to get off the pill. I was on BCP for 10 years.

I was on for a long time too. I went off last April, and it took 66 days for AF to show for the first time. Then I was averaging 40 something days after that for a while. I would say it took a good 7 months to get some sort of regular cycle back. But, everyone is different.

my dr said 3 months, and once you go off she said to start taking prenatals to get everything healthy in there...

I was on it for 10 years & my dr. said to give my body at least a full period cycle on its own b4 we start. We actually started the first month off, but got preggo the 2nd month

i went off bcp in october and gto full on af about a week later. then nothing in november. then got it like clockwork in dec., jan. and feb... and now.... or  on the way.
but it took about 3 months for my cycle to regulate.

I completely agree. Talk to your doctor. My OB/GYN asked me a bunch of questions before giving me TTC advice. She said when I'm ready to go off the pill, we could start trying right away. She also told me to start taking a multivitamin with folic acid 3 months before TTC.
