How much food?
How much food do you typically keep in your house/apt? If there was some type of crisis how long would it last you?
I usually keep a lot of food in - like canned goods, and food in the freezer. If I had to guess I'd say it would last us (if we ate it sparingly) about a week.

Re: How much food?
Perishables would be enough for a week, then we have canned soups, beans, veggies, ramen soup, crackers, and other snacks, plus water, juice, seltzer. Enough for 2-3 weeks, but it wouldn't be the healthiest meals. When we move, I do plan on getting more water and canned stuff and other non-perishables.
And I stock on freezer stuff too. So I think if we still had electricity, we'd be okay.

Re: How much food?
We have some kind of backup but not extensive, maybe 2 weeks tops and 1/2 of it would be no good... a stove would be needed

Us too. Although I have to say, we learned last year that a lot of it doesn't matter. Once electricity goes...most of your food goes.

Re: How much food?
I usually got to Costco's, BJs and buy steaks, chichen etc. and freeze them. I try to keep canned goods and water stored god for bid something were to happen - but as of right now i desperately need to make a trip to Costco's to load up again.
Ultimately i probably have enough food to last me the week...

Re: How much food?
We would def. be living on canned veggies, crackers, pretzels and pasta. To drink, it would be I guess warm soda. I really should keep bottled water in the house. I'd say, we would last maybe a week and a 1/2. Cereal too.

Re: How much food?
I'd like to have a lot more canned items, jsut so I have a choice in cooking our meals. But, we don't have alot at the moment.
Our food shopping usually lasts 2 weeks

Re: How much food?
Like a typical NYC'er I have NOTHING - we are always eating out or getting take out. I would starve in a matter of days - I mean, I hardly have canned goods

Re: How much food?
the way we eat? probably about 2 hours.
even the non- perishable food we have- most of it still needs to be cooked anyway, so if the power went out (electric stove) it wouldnt make a difference anyway.

Re: How much food?
I have several canned goods.
However, when we had the blackout I realized none of it was good withour power since I onky have an electric can opener. Ya think I have gone out and bought a manual one like I said I would.
