$10/hr ok for 14 yr old sitter? UPDATE
Our 14yo next door neighbor is babysitting for us tomorrow night so DH and I can go out for dinner. Last summer, the 13yo would watch kids for 1-2 hrs during the daytime so I/DH could run errands occasionally. I normally would not trust a 13-14 yo but her parents are right next door so if anything bad were to happen, she could get her parents next door.
Last summer I paid her $10/hr.
Is $10 still reasonable for a 14yo?
I was thinking I would round up so the average per hr would probably come out to be a little more.

For night time babysitting I would probably pay more but thats me..I tend to overpay for things -for example last summer I hired a girl for babysitting while I worked from home and she said she would like $10 per hour but I told her I would pay her $12...pay whatever you feel comfortable with but thats just my opinion.

That's what I pay.
I don't skimp on babysitters.
Listen a dollar here a dollar there, not a deal breaker for me. Why people nickel and dime a sitter I can never understand!!!!

Uh yeah, and most pre-school teachers barely make $10 an hour!

Our teenage sitter asked for a raise to $15/hr since that is the going rate in our neighborhood for teenage sitters. The boys love her so we are fine with her rate.
We did use her for date night last week and plan to use her again today for 2 hours.

That kid's got some nerve! She is FOURTEEN; I'd be mortified if that were my daughter! I've got 3 kids and that's the upper limit I've paid any of my sitters...including 19 yr olds.
Anyway, glad everyone's happy with the arrangement. Good babysitters are essential to life as a parent, imo.

I did think $10 was low, which is why I posted here in the first place. She plays with the boys and helps them clean their rooms. The boys would prefer her to an older sitter so we are ok with the arrangement.
I am sure by the time she is a senior, her rate will be $20.

$20!!! My sister makes just a little more than that working at a local college as a higher Ed administrator. She has a masters degree. I should tell her to babysit in your town off the books - it'd be a raise. lol
