Middle lane on Highway Speed
Please help settle a debate between DH and I on a "reasonable" speed on the parkways, LIE, etc. I say 60-65 and he says closer to 70-75.

Too fast is all I am going to say lol. I drive about 60 and the most 65 on the LIE and I am passed by like I am a turtle. lol

I agree with your DH but I think in general if you are going 60 and NOT blocking up the left lane you are probably fine.

Right lane should be speed limit. Middle lane should be the speed limit- 5mph over. Left lane should be 5mph-10mph over the speed limit.

I would say 60-65 max. People need to realize that the LIE isn't nascar and need to slow down. You shouldn't be flashing me for not doing 80MPH!!! Slow down- people text and do 80. People need to realize they can kill themselves or others with their reckless behavior!

I agree with the previous poster that people have to start calming down on the roads. I don't need drivers acting like a lunatic behind me for doing 65 in the middle lane.

I'm with your DH on this one 
On the expressway 70-75 is, in my experience, keeping up with traffic unless obviously it is heavy traffic or rush hour.

This shouldn't even be a discussion, IMO. There's a speed limit. It's not a flexible number you can tack on 5-10 extra mph to suit the flow of traffic. It's not dependent on what lane you're in. It's pretty black and white, if you ask me. I used to think of the "with the flow of traffic" way but too many assholes now go 80.
Speed kills.
Nevermind a ticket and points.

I ask because I got pulled over for going 69 on the northern state where the speed limit is 55. Is the speed limit on the LIE faster?

I will NEVER understand how people can't wrap their heads around the word 'limit'...it does not mean make up your own speed. 70 mph on the LIE is insane. The speed limit is 55 - I can understand 65 in the left lane for passing but 70-75 is WAY over the limit.
