Would you show up for Thanksgiving dinner with nothing in your hand?

I would never show up somewhere without bringing anything. Even a tray of cookies. I think most people are like me too. The guest that your in laws brought is the exception. Unless, maybe they literally couldn't (money issues)?

No, I would always bring something - (unless it was DH's cousin who goes ballistic if anyone brings anything and "messes up" her menu - but that's a whole other story lol! - and even then, we at least bring a bottle of wine)

Re: Would you show up for Thanksgiving dinner with nothing in your hand?

I never go anywhere empty-handed.

If someone is coming to my house and they ask what to bring and I specifically tell them "nothing", I would not feel bad or be offended if they come with nothing.

yes I would. I showed up for Thanksgiving with nothing but wine.....The wine was really just for me since no one else drinks it.

Re: Would you show up for Thanksgiving dinner with nothing in your hand?

I never think to bring anything my family never did it growing up .. Not even extended family

I know it is what most people do but I rarely think of it..

I do get annoyed when people bring stuff bc I either can't eat it due to celiac or its just another thing to sit on my shelves and get thrown out... Unless it's wine of course I'll never turn that down ..

Re: Would you show up for Thanksgiving dinner with nothing in your hand?

I always bring something - wine, dessert, something... I would be embarrassed to show up to someone's house empty handed.

I would ask and even if they told me nothing, I'd show up with something.
Munchkins, flowers, side dish. But I wouldn't do empty handed.

I usually always try to bring something but honestly I wouldn't be upset or offended if someone came to my house empty handed.

This... also I ask the host if they need anything in particular. At events I host, I always end up with a ton of desserts leftover because that seems to be the thing people bring the most.

Same here.

We hosted Thanksgiving and the only things we "needed" were soda and wine. The 2 people who asked what to bring, I told 1 wine and 1 soda.

Someone still brought a cheesecake, but we didn't even touch it - sent it back home with them.

my family - like my sisters house.. I roll up empty handed all the time.. but - we are like that and its ok. To someone else's even extended family I would not. It has happened once or twice - but I in turn apologize profusely and get in the kitchen with them and help or even do the whole clean up... trying to make it up at least.

Ditto. I used to always bring desserts but they almost never got eaten. So I stopped. This year I asked if they needed anything and they said no. I still brought flowers to my aunt's house and beer to my SIL's, but SIL actually sent the beer back home with DH.

Yes I would. It wouldn't occurs to me to bring something I would ask and of they told me nothing then I wouldn't bring anything. I never think to bring anything with me I guess I am bad and rude like that.

Honest question everyntime you are invited over to someones house you are really supposed to bring something. Don't get me wrong for ceartin invites I ask but if they tell me nothing then I bring nothing.

The only time I would not bring anything is when I am specifically asked not to. Otherwise, yes, I always bring something, even if it's a bottle of wine or a dessert. It's a pet peeve of mine showing up empty handed.

I would be surprised about it, but would not be terribly upset.

I don't expect my guests to contribute anything if I'm inviting them over. Unless I specified that it was a potluck. So this wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I would not show up empty handed.

But I would never think a guest was rude or weird for not bringing something.
