OP said that the kid would "not shut up."

I don't THINK most/all people are talking about well behaved children. I think they're only really talking about poorly behaved children.

Last night I stopped at Marshalls and this woman was casually looking at candles, not paying a damn bit of attention to her son (probably about 4-5) who was pulling items off the shelves and playing soccer w/them on the floor of the store! Are you kidding me?? She wasn't even attempting to control him or 1) stop him from ruining merchandise 2) get him out of the way of ppl who were trying to walk past him in the aisle. I had to move my cart out of the way of a lucite nail polish holder that this kid was using as a soccer ball.

THAT is the kind of kid I don't want sitting in a nail salon when I'm having a service, NOT the little girl who is patiently having her own manicure, or the toddler sitting at his iPad. I'm pretty sure thats how most ppl feel, too.

I HATE parents like this! At least make an effort to control your kid. I have 2 "spirited" kids so i know kids aren't always perfect but I at least reprimand, redirect, occupy and don't let them pull crap off the shelves. That's just disrespectful.

Ok, so that's one kid. But the general attitude on here is no kid EVER, no matter what should be in a nail salon disturbing someone's precious "me time". That ridiculous.

I think the overall attitude, with the exception of 1 or 2, was that kids who are sitting quietly and not making a ruckus, are fine. It's the ones who are running amok with the parents ignoring them that people have issue with.

Unfortunately the latter seems to be happening more frequently these days.

I agree! I can't even tell you how many times I've seen parents rummaging through racks of clothes while their toddlers and young kids are wandering around. Watch your kid!! Why is that so difficult???

I am wondering for non-single parents why don't you just go get your nails done when you DH is home?

I already said I have no issue with people bringing their kids I just wonder why you would do it with them why wouldn't you just wait till DH is home to get it done. I get there are times you have no time to do it except for a certain time so you have to bring them then but I am talking about the times you want to get your nails done just to get it done why not just go when your DH is home and leave the kids with him? wouldn't you want the alone time?

Disclosure: I am not criticizing anyone I just honestly am interested and feel I am the minority (actually I know I am) where I rather not do my nails, food shopping etc with my kids and just wait till my DH comes home to do it. Chat Icon

To answer your question, I try to get EVERYTHING I need to do done during the day (shopping, hair appts., dr appts. etc) because my DH gets home at 6-6:30, we eat dinner as a family and by the time we're done eating and I clean the kitchen it's almost 7:45 and then we're getting the kids into bed. It's too hectic at night for me to try and do anything outside of the house. My DH is tired from working so I'm not about to run out the door as he's walking in and by 8pm when the kids are in bed ALL I want to do is hit the couch with my DH. The LAST thing I want to be doing at night is running any kind of errand. So that's why I truck my kids around everywhere with me during the day, it's easier for me to get things done while DH is at work so at night we can relax as a family/couple. Chat Icon

what about weekends? does he work all day than. I am thinking your answer might be that you like to have family time but I feel that lots of mom forget that they deserve and should have alone time once in a while and isn't getting your nails done by your self a quick way to get this?!

again I am not saying you shouldn't bring your kids to nail places I just don't get why anyone really wants to bring their kids if their DH is home at some point through out the week/weekend when they can just go by themselves!

I understand what you are saying. To answer your question, my DH is home on weekends but I *personally* would rather spend the time with him (and the kids) then alone. I know I am likely in the minority but that's just me! Chat Icon

Trust me, ITA with you and anyone who doesn't want a disruptive kid around. 100%. A lot of the replies sort of read like some people don't want kids around NO matter how they behave. That's the part I don't understand. But I get what you're saying. Chat Icon

Re: Your opinion

I can't imagine people care about (or even notice) a well behaved child, although I used to go to a salon that had a big sign that said something like "no children under any circumstances, unless they're the person having a service done" and it always made me chuckle a little bit.

do the women who keep showing up multiple times on every single page.....do you really care THAT much that this has consumed 3 days of your life? Do you want to be RIGHT, THAT badly?

You obviously have different feelings on kids being seen and not heard than other moms on here.....thats not going to change, no matter how much you go back and forth. We get it, you don't think they belong, and some moms do.....everyone is going to have to live with it. Bickering on a thread isn't going to change the world.

I just can't believe how much time people have committed to a thread on nail salons.

Is that really how some of you feel? That if some of us look at our $25 spa pedi as a nice treat, b/c THATS what our budget allows, that we're getting "coach service" and should just have to deal with someone else's poorly behaved child?

How about if your kid is going to run around like a nut, and you're going to ignore said kid and sit on your phone, you skip the nail place and do your own mani pedi?

This is is a NAIL place we're talking about - its not a requirement that you have your nails done. Its not a doctors appointment. Its not something that you MUST do. I have to laugh at the "mom shaming" comments. Sorry. If your kid isn't well behaved, leave him/her the hell home.

These posts make me laugh. I try to be courteous, I wouldn't take my almost 4 yr old son to the nail salon, no one would enjoy it not him, not me and not any other customers Chat Icon

but I do take him and my infant daughter to any and every restaurant We want to eat at and I do not give a fuckkkk lol Most likely I wouldn't go to a fancy place after 8 on a weekend night but I don't really care what others think, my life, my money if you don't like it ask to be seated far away from me, if either of my kids were crying or misbehaving I would walk outside w them or leave but they are both used to going out to eat since we have always taken them everywhere

I don't understand how someone could be annoyed by the mere presence of a child somewhere.

When I am at a restaurant I am focused on enjoying my food and the company I am with. I do not pay any mind to what other patrons are doing. Its not worth getting all bent out of shape about things you can't control.

Depends on the Nail Salon, the one i got to in Garden city is very large. There is a separate Spa pedicure room and there is no talking/or cell phones allowed.

In the main pedicure/manicure area there are signs posting for children to behave

There is also a new manager and a new rule that employees are not allowed to talk to each other while working which makes it extremely quiet, i never see children there, but its a little more pricey than a regular nail salon

This thread is making me smh... honestly. If a child is well behaved, who cares? If the child isn't then the parent should remove them. End of story. Nothing really to debate!
The pic of the kid in the foot bath is hilarious.
I'm just posting to find out where this nail salon is? Sounds awesome!

I don't mind if the child is behaved but I think this type of place, that is a want, not a need, is really a place for adults, not kids, no matter how well behaved they are.

There are many of those "one kids" out there and many people have given their own stories.

I don't remember most kids being allowed to run around when I was a kid like the kids are allowed to do now with the parents not taking responsibility to watch them. While it doesn't bother me as much if it is not my kid and I don't have to discipline them, don't try and make it my problem if you are ignoring your kid for your own pleasure.

Sometimes, yep. I am an adult and want to do adult things. I get that some people, like yourself like to do kids things 24/7 but others do not. We like a break to go out someplace alone or with friends or our dh's and just be with adults.

I don't get what HAPPENED between our parents and the new generation of parents. Do they all feel guilty because they work that they let their kids do whatever they want? Is there no more common sense left in this world as we are too busy trying to get book smart? I can't figure it out but like I said, there was such a difference between the 5 years between my kids and the way the parents disciplined their kids.
Just go to any extra curriculum thing in elementary school and you will see what I mean.

I haven't kept up with this thread mostly bc I don't go to nail salons. I have what I consider to be a"well behaved" 3yo. However she is a very chatty kid and wants to talk to everyone. I'm sure if I took her to get our nails done she would talk the whole time whether it be to me or the girl doing her nails. Aside from making sure she's not too loud, would that make me a bad parent bc I'm not making her sit quietly? I don't think it would be any different than if I brought my chatty mom with me. I wouldn't let her run around touching everything but I wouldn't think anything of her talking as long as she wasn't too loud.
