I'm sorry but this thread is completely ridiculous to me. First I want to point out that manis and pedis at your local nail salon are no longer luxuries. They are things we woman do these days to look presentable and fit in this world. Sad, yes, but, for me in my life it's the truth so I am going to say it. Could I do my own toes? Yes. but they would look like a gross mess.

Also, the local nail salons shouldn't be viewed by anyone as a place to relax. They are always bustling with teens and older people loudly chatting it up and are factories of one rushed mani after another. I could go on and on. IF you were talking about a spa where a mani costs $14 and up that would be a totally different story. Yes, in that case, I would expect that no one would bring their young children there but, that is not what we are talking about here.

So now, all that said, not everyone has the luxury of having a husband or family around to watch their kids and not everyone is comfortable leaving their kids with strangers. If I had somewhere to go where I needed a mani and pedi I would absolutely bring my kids along and see people do it ALL.THE.TIME. I don't judge you for leaving your kid with a stranger to go get a mani - don't judge me for taking my kid with me. If you want to relax - go somewhere that is designed to be an adult only spa haven.

ETA: I wanted add that I never brought my kids to a nail salon except when my DD was old enough to get one with me (which I do more than I should so that I can get my nails done at all). So this response isn't coming from defensiveness just what I observe in reality.

They ARE still luxuries to many people, including myself who has a budget. Why should I lose out because others feel entitled to this all the time? I never really have seen that many kids at nail salons though. Maybe because the moms feel the same way I do is that we are looking for a relaxing time off from the kids and hubby lol.

Definitely a luxury for me. Yup, even the $15 mani/pedi specials.

Some people don't know the definition of well behaved though and like the woman who had her kids at the nail salon that day, running around while she was ignoring them, or the parents who brought a crying baby into a 9pm movie one time, or the woman on my most recent plane ride that made her kid say mom 12 times before answered him, some people are clueless what well behaved means.

I agree with the OP that there are just some places that are designed not to bring kids. You make sacrifices when you have kids. One of them, IMO is going to a nice restaurant or nail salon or movies when your children are not small infants or older and know how to behave.

A-to-the-MEN.

I'm blown away by what some of my mom friends consider 'well-behaved.' Maybe I'm just overly strict...?

If I need to get nails done and don't have someone to watch my kid - I don't go. I would hate for my kid to be the one that disrupts someone's relaxation time. I know how precious a mom's time is and I wouldn't want my kid to potentially spoil that.

ETA: You know what? We live in such a 'me, me, me' society that people don't think twice about other people. I'm not surprised by the responses on here.

ITA with all of this.

We've taken my now 16m old out to restaurants since she was a newborn. Anytime she starts to fuss or get loud, we remove her until she calms down. DH and I both said before we had kids that we don't want to be the ones whose kids run around and kick and scream and ruin other people's meals. We also are both against using technology to keep our kids behaved. It's getting harder to take her out since she's getting older, so we don't. If we want to go to a movie or to a nice restaurant, we find someone to watch her. If it's not possible for anyone to watch her, we don't go. It's as simple as that.

Yep and more and more when you go out, parents do not take kids out of restaurants or church or the library or anyplace that distrupt others.
We didn't go out or on vacation for so many years as it was hard and I don't think others should have to deal with others children when parents think they should. Too many parents are way too lax now and think that everyone else should just deal with it.

Wow so you would forget a vacation during the kiddie years bc you think your kids would be bothersome. that I don't agree with one bit either.
Let's face it I wouldn't take my young children to an adult only resort Chat Icon but the majority of places are kid friendly! I'm sure you could find ONE place that would be kid friendly for a vacation (besides Disney world of course).
When I was a kid we vacationed all the time. Sometimes big vacations sometimes small. But we always had fun, we also learned how to behave and interact.

If I am out , whether vacation, a plane, nail salon, or stop n shop- if I see a kid acting up I don't judge that parent for taking them.... I say thank god at THAT moment in time it's not my child acting up LOL bc we all know we have been there at some time or another.
I think we are all too quick to judge each other.

We couldn't afford to go on vacations for many years and it WAS hard to just go out of the house with kids (my oldest has ADHD and was very hyper when she was younger when we went away).

I don't allow my kids to get that bothersome to others like I have witnessed so, no I have not been there some time or another. I don't blatantly ignore my children, like I witnessed the other day.
There is a difference between having a child who is cranky or tired or out of control because of some reason and a parent who is either on their phone or yapping or just ignoring their child.
I actually had one child try to steal my keys at an extra curricular activity many years ago and the parent was standing a few feet away yapping. Some parents think that whoever their child is near will watch them and take care of them. I have been at a party where the host (and yes they really did not have time to do everything and I get that, but find someone to help) wasn't paying attention to her kids and her youngest, maybe about a year and a half was climbing into a kiddie pool (with enough water to drown). I watched the child and her at the same time (as I would have run for the kid) and she wasn't even taking her eyes off the person she was talking to. I am sorry but maybe I was just more of a helicopter mom when they were younger but I never took my eyes off my kids for a minute and always had them in my site if no one else was watching them.
You might think this is judging but common sense seems to have gone out the window with many parents lately. None of us are perfect and we all make mistakes. You can easily prevent many mistakes though and my goal was always for my kids to behave and not bother anyone when they were out in public.

I am not a parent yet so I'm not sure how I will do it but I think if my future kid is running around and bothering others, I'd probably cut my services short.

Side story: I was recently waiting for a nail technician at my salon to finish what was probably a 5-year old girl and while she was sitting at the dryer, the girl started crying because she decided she didn't want pink nails anymore, she wanted purple. The mother told the technician and they took off the color and started from scratch. Mind you, there were two women (one being me) waiting for someone to start on them when this happened. Instead of telling her that she chose color and she needed to stick with it, the mother insisted on having the nails changed. I ended up getting taken by someone else but the other person walked out.

Wow, that was just not right to the other customers.

What are your thoughts on bringing young children (under 3) to a nail salon, and getting both a mani pedi?

There's a woman here now with her son, and he will.not.shut.up. I left my kid at the sitters for some quiet, and now have to listen to someone else's kid Chat Icon

IMO, rude. But then again I don't have tolerance for that sort of thing, not the way I was raised. I go to get a manicure to relax, do not want to hear a screaming child. Now if it's a little girl getting her nails painted who is being good, I have no problem.
I do believe there are times and places to bring children. Ex. last night I am out to dinner in a nice restaurant, not super fancy but very nice. At 8pm a couple is seated next to us with their little boy who could not have been more than 2 1/2...seriously, you bring your toddler to a nice restaurant at 8pm on a Friday night? I will admit, the little boy was as good as gold, but all I kept saying to my SO was that he should be in bed at that hour.Chat Icon

Your opinion

I think some of this thread got a little off the point-
No one said a 2 year old is "entitled" to be at a fine dining establishment as no one said an parent should feel "entitled" to take their infant to an adult movie at 10pm.
Agreed- not the place.
Also- no one said a misbehaving 2 year old in a nail salon being ignored by a face booking mom is ok as well. Believe me I'm the FIRST to say keep an eye on your child (and for me it's more than an eye) and if you choose to take them then it's your responsibility to make sure they are not disruptive.
No one (and I mean ME) ever said I yap on my phone so I can enjoy my pedicure while my child runs the nail ace.
I am actually the mom that flies around the playground bc I refuse to take my eye off my children for a second. Last time I was at a local playground I saw a mom sitting there knitting (yeah knitting i wish I had time to knit) while her son was tormenting my daughter.
Those things I don't stand for!
There's has to be a line between a disruptive child with a parent not handling it appropriately and a parent who just needs to get stuff done with their kids in tow and trying as best they can to make the best of it.
And yes, I would get up MID appointment if my child was being disruptive.
Thankfully that only happened to me one time- my DS started to get cranky once in the nail salon so I told the girl not to polish my nails and of course to charge me the full price but I wasn't staying for color. Do you know every single person in that salon (workers and customers) told me I was nuts and that my son wasn't acting that bad, that he wasn't bothering anyone and to stay for polish.
I still choose not to bc then I had to wait for the polish to dry and I was pressing my luck! Lol

I can't imagine getting a sitter to go to target, or food shopping etc. I have friends who never take their kids food shopping! That I can't imagine. My kids come. 4 months old and up! They go food shopping and run errands bc frankly life isn't all playtime. Real life needs to get done too. And sometimes- even small luxuries like manis and pedis

As some said they consider a mani/pedi a luxury - don't get me wrong so do I- but I don't consider it to be the same luxury as an adult spa. There I would expect no kids. Also don't judge for me taking my kids as I don't judge you for getting a sitter so you can get a mani/pedi. It works both ways ya know?

But wow- kudoss to the poster that said their kids don't act up! Consider yourself blessed! I certainly have well behaved children but they are not angels 100% of the time so I have certainly "been there some time or another" ! Share your secret!!!

The best part - I went to a different place this time - and she colored in my eye brows with a dark pencil when she was done. I'm very fair. My eyebrows were so dark and she filled them in very dramatically (not my normal thing) and when my kids looked at me, they asked why I looked angry. Haha!

I really find these posts funny. I am more annoyed at the adults in the nail salon than the kids. I can tell stories about loud talking, being mean to the manicurists, talking on the cell phones and just being bitchy. Salons are not for relaxing anymore and if you want to relax go to a day spa.

I can see why it would be annoying but it wouldn't bother me. But that's because I don't find Mani/pedis relaxing either. It's more like a chore to me. Plus, if it's not a spa, I think it's OK.

This happened to me recently. Had a wedding to go to but no one to watch DD. I ended up tweezing and doing my own nails at home.
