I'm shocked there hasn't been a post about it.
Opinions on Giuliana comments? No drama please!!!!! just curious if people thought her apology and statement was real or just her PR rep doing damage control?

I saw the apology, the comment was about her hair smelling like weed?
to answer Im sure it was a PR move, by those around her as well as Melissa Rivers, but I do believe she meant what she said

Comment was awful. But i read somewhere if Joan had said it she would have never apologized for the comment. I think her apology was sincere. Im really surprised she said something so awful. Jmo

I agree.
She was referencing the Bohemian Lifestyle / Stereotype, that's all.
I think if the person was white or any other color, for that matter, and had a huge head of dreads she would have said the same thing... It's just an association like think Bob Marley - think dreads - think pot smoker. It's like that, it has nothing to do with the fact that Marley is black!

I think she was trying to be funny but didn't realize how offensive her comments were.
I will say I thought her apology (the televised one) was very thoughtful and heartfelt. She's not a mean person so I really don't think she meant any harm and because of that received some serious education.

I think this is being so blown out of proportion. Giulianas reputation preceeds her, and never has she been racist. When Zendaya was asked to be interviewed on The Today show she refused. Internet Balls are huge. People are just too sensitive these days. Yes it was a shiittty comment to say, but HELLO it's Fashion Police! Welcome to the red carpet Zendaya!
I don't understand why Kelly is also threatening to quit FP, if things aren't resolved. She agreed with Giulana that she probably smells like weed. This is just so baffling to me.

I think its ridiculous. No one would think twice if joan said something likethat. I dont find it racist. I think Kelly is egging things on by saying she's reconsidering being on the show. Its a show that makes jokes at the expense of others looks. Lighten up!

I watched the talk today and in the clip they showed Kelly did not say anything about her smelling like weed at all. In fact, she didn't even laugh or smile at giulianas comment. Sharon mentioned that she is talking about quitting because she is being attacked for comments she had no part in.
FWIW I do not think Giuliana meant for it to be a hurtful or racist comment. I just think she was trying to be funny and it backfired big time.

Just a thought, but Fashion Police isn't live so I'm surprised that they left that comment in the show that aired.
I'm sure they edit a lot out, but obviously the producers or whoever does the editing didn't think it was that bad or offensive.
IMO I think that she made a stupid comment, didn't mean it in a racist or a hateful way. I think her apology was sincere.

I don't that's fair. Its rather simplistic to say people need to lighten up - why not say people should be more educated and more thoughtful in what they say.
Giuliana may not be a racist, but she is making a stupid and stereotypical comment about something that is very racially charged and sensitive to a minority group. She should know better.

I don't think the comment was racist at all. It was definitely demeaning to those who wear dreads though and was uncalled for. Just because someone wears their hair like that doesn't mean they do pot. It was disrespectful to a whole group of people. Now if Joan said it, there probably wouldn't have been any backlash because she is a comedienne and it would have been taken as such (I believe) Giuliana is not, she is just a host and shouldn't try to be so funny. I do think that her apology was heartfelt though.

There are so many offensive statements on that show, that's what the show is about I can't believe this is the one making waves

I don't think GR meant it as a racial slur, more like a hippie observation. I'm sure we've all seen many races and ethnicities wear dread locks not just blacks (jata anyone?). Also, let's be real here, Zendaya had a pixie cut two weeks ago and now she's sporting 2 foot long dread extensions--she's wearing them as a fashion statement. Otherwise, she would have grown them if they were so important to her and her family.
