Kathy Griffin said weed first and Guilianna agreed going further. Kelly looked uncomfortable to me and it was just recently reported that Kelly wanted them not to discuss this piece that way. It was taped three times before the execs aired which taping they wanted. Kelly knew this was offensive. It's one thing to say a dress is ugly or not like the makeup or hair but she stereotyped that particular fashion. I don't think it was racist but offensive when you like the hairstyle and not smell of oil and weed. I thought Zendaya looked beautiful and never thought anything about her hair when I saw her.

What she said isn't racist. At all. She sterotyped and while maybe it wasnt a nice comment about 90% of FP isn't nice. You can't say anything without offending someone.
And I do believe her apology was genuine. I don't thjnk in any way she meant for this to happen.

This literally made me lol ! So true ! This is such a mountain out of a mohill. People need thicker skins. This comment was made on fashion police not during a church sermon. Also, I am SO SICK of the race cards being placed in every single instance. Enough already ! Also, imo, this young lady's dreads mar the appearance of an otherwise beautiful girl. Does that statement make me a racists ??!! Ridiculous

The last piece of your statement could make you sound that way to some but I get your point and agree that this has been blown out of proportion.

It was inappropriate. It's basically stereotyping: Dreadlocks=Weed. Someone in one of the post mentioned Bob Marley no secret Bob Marley smoked weed and had dreadlocks so right when Guliana saw the pic or whatever she probably thought Bob Marley since Zendaya had dreads and weed.
It's unfortunate.

I don't understand the pinpoint of this controversy.
They literally said on the show that some other celebrity (I cant remember who) "Looks like S*!T"
Either we all say that these shows are bad for TV or we say it's entertainment. Where does the line get crossed when nitpicking how people dress and look.

FP is the most mean spirited show on TV. I am not a sensitive person and some of the things said on that show made me cringe. I think GR is a twit and tries to be funny but she's not. Ever. That being said, there have been far worse things said on that show and my personal take on this is that Zendaya is either 1. Making a stink for publicity or 2.has extremely thin skin and is trying to turn this into a race thing. It's stupid in light of the forum. In fact, I'm surprised an apology was made at all. Kelly just needs to sit down and shut up. She's another one who has said extremely tasteless things.

Thanks for seeing my point. I make judgments based on my subjective aesthetic standards not race. I don't think dreads are attractive on anyone black, white, green or yellow. The same goes for many other popular trends.

I don't think she meant it to be racially charged at all. However, once it's out there, it's out there. Even worse, she said in a previous episode that one of the Jenners (Kylie?) looked edgy and cool with locs. The additional layer of that makes it so much worse. Do I think Giuliana Rancic is hateful? No. Do I think this was a lesson she needed to learn? Yes (though it definitely sucks to be played out in the public eye--I wouldn't wish that on anyone). She's an extremely smart woman and a ridiculously hard worker (even if it's for a flakey entertainment show), and I'm sure she'll be more aware about the implicit tones of future comments.

I agree too. Solange is applauded for wearing her hair in a natural style. There's no way they would make derogatory comments about her and how she wears her hair. Whether you want to define it as racist or not, it's derogatory and if she didn't expect backlash for that comment, she's not too bright.
Personally, I thought Zendaya looked beautiful with the locs.

She was referencing the Bohemian Lifestyle / Stereotype, that's all.
I think if the person was white or any other color, for that matter, and had a huge head of dreads she would have said the same thing... It's just an association like think Bob Marley - think dreads - think pot smoker. It's like that, it has nothing to do with the fact that Marley is black!
This exactly! I said the same thing! I also agree with what others said about Joan Rivers. She's made horrendous comments on Fashion Police and no one ever said anything, nor did she ever apologize. I think her apology was sincere.

It was all Giuliana. Kelly was pretty upset by the comment. Apparently Zendaya is a good friend of hers. She even made comments about possibly not returning to the show.

I guess people have a right to be offended by whatever they want though.
I think she looked gorgeous and loved her hair personally.

I don't watch the show, but:
I didn't know who Zendaya was, but now I do. I agree with a previous poster, her PR was right on this opportunity to get her name out there.
There is a blind item about Kelly using this to try and get rid of Giuliana.
I didn't see it as racial at all. My little sister grew dreds once. I saw it as a stereotype of the hippy, bohemian lifestyle. Patchoulie, weed. Big picture time, everyone needs to take a step back.
Also, isn't this show all about ripping into people's fashion choices? Give me a break.
