8 mo old gagging on solid food

DS will be 8 mo in 2 days, he was EBF for 6.5 mo and then we started supplementing with formula before bed ( not sure if this matters , but figured I'd mention)
So anyway, we started solids at around 6 mo. Most times he is fine with it, but now that I am trying to give him thicker, more textured foods he gags, basically unless the food is very thin and watery he starts gagging on it. He gags on peas unless I mix few drops of water with it, gags on chicken dinner (don't remember exactly what kind it is) and few other things. Even oatmeal cereal,if I make it a bit too thick he will start making the face and gag on it.
DD never did this, so not sure if he is just not ready for certain textures or if the is something else going on.

Dd still gags at 10 months if it's a thick consistency. I just add a little water. Smaller spoon fills also help.

DS 1 did this. He did better with solid foods he could feed himself - like puffs and cheerios. If I was feeding him with a spoon, he was expecting a puree.

DS 2 had no issues whatsoever with it so it varies from kid to kid.

my almost 9 month old gags on textures too, its frustrating but in time he will hopefully get used to it!

Mine didn't do well withsolids till 12 months and did better with finger foods rather than stage 3

Mine gags on it when he gets sick of eating it, he knows the fruit or vegetables come after the cereal so he starts gagging on the cereal I guess to tell me he doesn't want it anymore lol, I dip the spoon full of cereal in the fruit or veggie for the last couple bites of cereal and he eats it fine so I know he's a big faker
