Holtsville Ecology Center charging??

Someone on Facebook just posted that she heard the Ecology Center will be charging $20 a car to park. Did anyone else see/hear this? I tried searching online but can not find anything.

They definitely aren't charging as of now. I was there this weekend and there was no charge. I certainly hope they don't start!

Oops, meant to say they will start charging as of Memorial Day.

I was there this weekend also and did not see anything about this. And I agree that $20 is a bit much.

Maybe that is for non Brookhaven Town residents.

I heard this as well, and that it was for non-residents of Brookhaven. I would have paid a fee, but this is too much for me to justify. They may have shot themselves in the foot with this one.

The Town beaches and parks in most towns are like $20 for non-residents. Tanner Park, Ventian Shores come to mind. Same concept. Doesn't bother me in the least to be honest, but I live in Brookhaven.

I have to agree. The Ecology Center nearly was closed and a solution that was raised was to charge a parking fee for non-residents. Many neighboring towns are lean toward residents only and charge a steep fee for non-residents. I am glad Brookhaven is finally getting on board.

I guess I understand but that really stinks for us! That was one of my top places to take DD! I can't justify $20 to go there. Too bad. . . Chat Icon

I am so so so PISSED OFF!!!!!

I just paid $150 for a permit to have my DD's birthday party there.... and was so excited about it. It was the perfect space... but all of my guests are non-residents and would have to pay $20 just to get into the party.... so there goes that idea!!!! SO UPSET!!!!!

I would definitely call them and see what they say. Maybe they will give you parking passes for the guests. Otherwise, I would be asking for my money back if they didn't inform you of the new policy.

Already called, they will not waive the fee for the guests. So I told her since it was a credit card payment, if they don't refund me I will just call the CC company and get it that way... but now I have no party space =0(

That is absurd! No one is going to book a party there now. Who would have all town residents as their guests? So stupid!

Holtsville Ecology Center charging??

Wow! I was planning to take DS there this weekend for his bday. I guess it will be our first and last visit. That's a shame. A fee is one thing, but $20 is outrageous.

Re: Holtsville Ecology Center charging??

This is awful. I have been taking my DS here since he was months old. He loves this place. I live literally five minutes away. $20 to park is ridiculous. I agree, they will lose tons of people over this. I would gladly pay a fee to park as a non resident but no way could I afford $20

Re: Holtsville Ecology Center charging??

Yea thats absurd!!! I am sorry but residents should not be charged also. I usually go there daily to excercise..so they are going to charge people who are there to walk also?? $5.00 a day adds up!

oh and what about Diamond in the Pines? I saw people renting out the pavillion there last year. I know it wont have the Animals but you will have the playground and bathroom there.

Is it $5 without a sticker like the beach is, or $5 even if you have a sticker?

There are so many great, free parks in our town, it's a shame they will be charging the residents. I don't think its worth $5 to see their animals to be honest (Suffolk County Farm is free) or walk on the trail. Heritage park has a great walking trail
