So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..
Whole foods has that spot that is for people with small kids
I cherish that spot.
I did use the expecting one when pregnant with my first towards the end. Bad siatica (sp)
I mean, you don't tend to use them when 6 weeks pregnant. And how often are you going to Babies R Us? Not daily. I think it's nice they have it.

Re: So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..
I look at those spots and am tempted, but never do park in them. I'd rather see those spots reserved for moms with small children.
I have difficulty walking because I have severe arthritis in my knees and need a double knee replacement, but my doctor won't sign the handicapped parking permit application until I have the surgery. Until then, I park as close the entrance as I can, in a regular spot.

The response was quick.. I'll give her that but I don't think what she did is right. I mean really..? Do you really need to park in at that very spot? I would have said something back.. I can't keep my mouth shut...

Ive been told those signs are a courtsey only and not 'law'. Anyone can park there. Same for the spots for customers with small children that we have at our grocery stores.
I avoided those spots mostly because I felt like I had prove I was pregnant which is just odd in itself. But if it was pouring rain I was aiming for them! LOL

Re: So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..
It's a courtesy spot. I think her comeback was witty.
I think her stance is a bit selfish as I do for others who park there because they will be quick and there are plenty of other spots available.
Don't get me started on the a-holes that park in handicapped spots.

I never park in those spots but if there is a fuel efficiency or hybrid parking or small car parking only signs, I do get annoyed when I see huge SUV's or vans parked in there.

I have never seen fuel efficiency/hybrid parking... what's the rationale behind that?

Buildings get credits toward being LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design) ceritfied for them. The idea is to give people more incentive to buy "green" cars thus improving the environment.
They have whole rows of spaces for Hybrid/Electric cars at the outlets in Deer PArk

I've also seen them at Whole Foods, some Libraries, and the new TD Bank in Seaford.

Agree, pretty funny.
I would have no problem with parking for the elderly (but not handicapped) or expectant moms.
Maybe it's because my arse could use a little more walking.

That was pretty funny!
I have never parked in those spots anyway, even at 9 months pregnant. So it wouldn't bother me. It's not a law, it's a courtesy. no way to enforce it.
Just like at Stop and Shop they have Parking for customer's with infants. That's nice and all, but not enforceable.

know towards the end of my pregnancy I was DONE. Too hard to walk, get out of breath easily. It was nice to have those spots.
I felt the same way.

and the expectant mother spots are not a legal issue. Just an issue of courtesy. I dont think there is anything wrong with parking there.

Right-it's a courtesy spot so parking there when you don't need to is rude.
I think the lady was funny though. Rude probably but funny.

Re: So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..
I actually find it really rude, and its more the comeback...if she would have said sorry, etc I didn't know it was mandatory or even hey give a old lady a break
How would she feel if someone said that to her pregnant daughter
Everyone finds it rude when a person does not give a pregnant lady a seat on the train?

The difference would be those parking spots should sit empty until a pregnant woman might need it? And I think pregnant women can still walk..it's not a disability. I think it is a courtesy to offer a pregnant woman a seat on a train..but if I were pregnant, and an older person offered me their seat, I would never take it.
