Pregnancy is a stage of life, not a disability.

I agree with you. I hesitate to comment because I'll probably get blasted but pregnant women stop complaining. My DH has been in a wheelchair fr 17 years and would give anything to walk across a parking lot. I know of many kids with SMA or other conditions who never know the feeling of walking be thankful for what you have because I'm sure many people would trade places with you in an instance.

Oh stop. I hate when things resort to this. Yes, some people have it worse in life. But guess what, waddling around at nine months pregnant isn't fun and if a store like BRU wants to make one or two spots available to us that are closer........who freakin' cares. It's a damn baby store, of course they are catering to pregnant people. I have honestly NOT seen a pregnant spot anywhere else except at places like BRU. Really, is this the end of the world that its offered?

This argument is insane, just have common courtesy. Why is that so hard for people? Chat Icon

If we are going to argue about this courtesy then let's talk about having a bit of respect for those who are older than we are. There are four pages here of people making assumptions that this woman was rude when we have no clue why she parked there. Perhaps she wasn't feeling well or maybe she was achy or something. Perhaps she wasn't just feeling entitled but needed a break for whatever reason because maybe she was just as achy or exhausted as some of the preggos. I think it's rude to point out that she's in the wrong spot because obviously she saw it and made the decision to park there. A woman who is having a difficult pregnancy can get a temporary parking permit for handicapped spots but an older lady who may just not be feeling very well that day can't get a one-day pass. This shouldn't be that big of a deal.

then she should have said that and not the remark she made

have we become so jaded in this world when something is done out of courtesy for a fellow human being we like to frown upon it...

it is simply a nice gesture,a common courtesy to a woman carrying a child...i just do not understand how that could annoy anyone

Thank you. THis is exactly what I was trying to express. And I don't think it was BRU. It was most likely a supermarket based on her comment about "expecting kids for dinner".

You're not alone.......ITA. People's attitudes and behaviors in this world sometimes scare me, such rudeness and self entitlement.

God sake, it's just a courtesy of like two to three spots set aside........how can this be upsetting to anyone?!! And the attitudes towards pregnant people. No, being pregnant is not a disability but its uncomfortable and if a store or a person is kind enough to make something a little easier for me I think it's a nice gesture, nothing more. Do I need a spot close by? No. But if its offered, it's just nice, that is all. Makes one thing less of a chore for me that day.

And FTR.......60 isn't old and I don't give a cr@p what your age, respect is earned not given and that woman acted like a nasty, self entitled b-I-t-c-h. Period.

I think people were just saying it was a funny remark the lady had, which it was. I must be missing all of the self-entitlement , ignoring courtesy posts. There was ONE person, as I wrote earlier, but everyone else just seems to think it's funny! ANd most wrote, they wouldn't use the freaking spot!

It sounds like nobody is that upset she parked there. It is what she said that is upsetting. If she would have just said yea I get it, but i'm having a horrible day or if she would have just ignored the lady I don't think anybody would care as much. Like a pp said we ALL have a sense of entitlement. Even the older people do, and 60 is not old. My mother is 62 and in better shape then me! We are all making a lot of assumptions based on nothing more then what the OP said. Parking in a spot not meant for you and being snarky is wrong, but then again pointing it out was ballsy too.

Re: So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..

This happened at a grocery store in PA...I forget the name of it.

I ultimately don't think its the biggest deal..I mean, it's a parking spot. But i agree with others who said that common courtesy is a nice thing...this woman (if she was healthy, able bodied etc..) prob should have found another spot. I have avoided those spots even when pg because I felt good and didn't need to take it.

If the woman was sickly and having trouble of course she should take the spot. Why not? I don't think that was the case here...I think she was like any of our moms...a slightly older than middle aged woman who was running in for a few groceries.

I appreciate the womans response simply for the humor because I love quick witted people, lol, but no..she should have honestly parked elsewhere. And it would have been nice if she said to my friend "i'm sorry, would you like me to move my car?". I doubt my friend would have said "yes" but you never know, lol. This is a friend from college i havent' seen in quite some time.

Then again I am not a fan of pregnancy parking either...let the flames begin haha

No flames! I feel there should be handicapped parking and that is that. If a pregnant woman is having a tough pregnancy she should have temporary handicapped parking privileges. Anytime I was pregnant I remember thinking how many other people prob need a closer spot than I do. I felt fine, could walk fine etc..

Agreed! Even this weekend when Dh and I were out shopping (at almost 39w) I refused to park in those spots. Am I slow moving? Absolutely. But I can still walk, I don't need a special spot. My mom always wants me to park in those spots when she and I go to the stores and I think I did once just to get her to shut up about it!! It's just not necessary.

THANK YOU!!!! Ugh. I'm sorry but if you're a nasty entitled beyotch, you're not getting respect from me just because you're older. Treat others how you would like to be treated. It's the stores right to designate spots how they want. If you're not pregnant, don't park there. And who is any other poster to determine whether a pregnant person is tired enough, disabled enough, worthy enough of having a closer parking spot? And the line about if you are so poorly feeling that you need a closer spot, you shouldn't be walking around shopping? That's completely moronic. Some people still need to get errands and things bought for a baby prior to it being born, regardless of how tired or poorly we might feel. It's a nice gesture to try and give a pregnant woman a break.

Lastly, since I'm on a roll, lol, Chat Icon at the comment about pg women should be happy they can walk, others can't, etc. The one-upmanship is so freaking lame. Every board on this website is filled with concerns, vents, etc about something someone is having a problem about. Why don't the ladies suffering from IF go and answer every vent on the Parenting Board with, at least you have a kid. Why doesn't any poster who has lost a parent or sibling respond to every family vent with, well, be happy you still have a mother, father, brother. No one on the home board better ***** about their taxes, neighborhood, oil prices, or home improvements, they should just be thankful they have houses because, you know, there are people who have to rent and there are homeless people out there. Getting off my soapbox now but SO F-ING STUPID!!!

You know whats funny? The ONE time I needed that spot the most was when i had horrendous morning sickness at 8 weeks..i could barely function but needed to run in...and i still didn't park in it because I felt funny since I wasn't showing at all...lol

Funny answer!

I got yelled at for parking there once. I was 6 months pregnant but not really showing , I had horrible hip/groin pain at that point and could barely walk , a woman next to me said shame on you for taking up the spot , lazy a$$ ... I told her I' m pregnant, her answer was "yeah, sure you are"...
I just kept walking , I was with my DD and didn't want any problems.

So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..

It's common courtesy and customer service for the store. I've only seen them at stores where a lot of moms/pg women shop whether it be a food store or baby store. I used them when I was pg at the end and would get out of breath easily or with my infant after. I don't expect a reserved spot but have no issue using it if its there and i need it.

And as for the older woman (not sure why age matters anyone could have a health issue that isn't obvious to an outsider) her response was rude. If that spot wasn't reserved chances are she would not have parked that close anyway- how often are those spots that are right in front if the store available anyway?? People are lazy and don't want to walk.

Sorry, but this is very pot meet kettle. How is this any different than the "old" lady's way of thinking? She likely subscribes to the same attitude... respect is earned not given... and, therefore, took the reserved spot from the OP's pregnant friend. This way of thinking just fuels the entitlement some people feel they deserve.

I don't understand the whole concept of those spots anyway. You're too pregnant, swollen, tired, etc to walk through the parking lot, but you're ok to walk through the mall or supermarket?

What she said, I stopped caring about the courtesy parking spots when I noticed men parking in them at the mall all the time.

It's an LIF thing. No matter what situation that might be rude or uncommon someone will throw in "oh but you don't know maybe the person had to eat the food before they paid for it because they're diabetic!" Or "maybe the person had to sit in the parking spot and eat their lunch while you waited for them to leave and take the spot because they have low blood sugar! You just don't know!"

It's more of an ongoing joke.

And that's the problem..........people stop caring. And when people stop caring about having a little common courtesy for others the world goes to $hit. Nobody thinks of anyone else but themselves it seems. Nice world we live in nowadays. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Maybe we should stop holding doors for people, their hands work......they can open up the doors up themselves. Or maybe when someone asks you to pass them the ketchup from across another table you should just tell them to get up and walk across the floor and get it themselves......after all, they should be thankful they have legs that work. I mean really, all these able bodied people of the world should really get over themselves and not expect any shred of decency from another human being. Chat Icon Chat Icon
