I admit I walk around with my head in the sand a lot of the time with anything politics related.

With that said, I also think that a lot of this stuff is blown up by the media.

Well, you should think about it because the average American is about to spend an extra 1500 per year in taxes. Enough is enough!

If unemployment ended wouldnt that only raise welfare? I mean people are going to have to eat, right? So isnt it mainly a shift of where the $'s going to come from?

This is what is expected to happen.... The average person making approx 50K a year could see a deduction of 1500 per year from earning...

Someone making between 75K-100K could see approx 3500 per year in deductions. Do the math now and see what that is per month.

It's ALOT.

Now, our lovely President was on vacation in Hawaii not really giving a damn about this.... It is to expire January 1st. If they don't do something, the average American worker is going to see about 2K in deductions per year.

Nice, real nice. He should have been working on this instead of waiting til the last minute to tackle this.

Oh, and you bet your life I miss GWB. It's because of HIM we have been saving on taxes. Ever since O became President, I have lost my job, got a new job where I make MUCH less and our insurance premiums went up about 20%. Now our taxes are going to SKYROCKET because this jacka__ hasn't done shit about it.

Chat Icon Chat Icon I do agree with this. Enough is enough already. Idk what changes need to happen to get things back in order, but we need big changes and fast!

We barely make ends meet but DH has a salary that is above poverty level so we will qualify for nothing. Not food stamps, heating assistance, WIC, assistance with child care, healthcare. Nothing.

So, we will not get any type of assistance until we reach the point where we're homeless and have nothing but the shirts on our backs, or unless DH loses his job too.

This is the situation most people I know are in. Former two earner families now one earner families who make too much to be poor but too little to make ends meet.

It's not just Obama's fault though. This whole shitshow started well before he took office and really, what is he supposed to accomplish when the Republican controlled congress has stonewalled everything until the absolute last minute.

I had the worst years under Bush Sr... my years under W were, well not fantastic. I miss Clinton personally. Had the best years under him.

ALL serving politicians are to blame on this. Every single one who puts special interests above fixing this crap. They're not serving the public, the citizens.. they're serving the special interests, the corporations, the lobbyists who butter them up.

President Obama will be giving an update at 5:45 regarding the meeting that took place today. I'm trying to stay optimistic.

The guy is keen on communism and bankrupting the nation. Just look at how many are unemployed now. Wait and see how many more people are on food stamps and unemployment by the end of O's term. Many are too blind to see it. Just wait and see. I'm not otiimistic about his update at 5:45. This is a disaster.

we are in the same boat. Barely scraping by...struggling...and we really count on our tax refund to help keep us afloat. Filing jointly will yield less of a return as will having a child etc etc...We are already planning to leave our home and start renting bc we just can't afford it. Our property taxes are already sky high...BUT according to my husbands paycheck...we make plenty...but not for the cost of living on LI...but that will never be taken into account...the american dream is being killed! people can't afford to be home owners anymore, the foreclosure situation in america is bonkers and it's going to get WAY WORSE with this fiscal cliff. this is CRAZY!

Blah.

Most American's are blaming the republicans.

Some are blaming Obama.

Harry Reid is pointing fingers at Boehner.

It's a big blame game.

Fact is ALL OF THEM are standing behind partisan viewpoints and are not doing what needs to be done to help the people in this country. It's really effed up.

They are all worried about losing their jobs instead of worrying about what is in the best interest of the folks they represent.

And you know what? Every fix is a Band Aid. I don't know why we can't seem to get our shit together as a nation..

I agree, I think the reason why obama takes blame is bc it doesn't look good when you take a nice little family vacation while this HUGE issue is unresolved. This is something Obama has been criticized for time and time again. All elected officials are at fault...but he is the face in the oval office and so people look to him for accountability

Seriously people need to stop the blame game. The Dems blame the Rep...the Rep blame the Dems..we blame O and GW and JFK...when will it stop. They all need to shut their mouths, put their big girl panties up and do something about our countries problems. Something permanent not something just till. A good majority of our politicians are a disgrace. They are more concerned with their own pockets and making sure the corporations get their share than they are about the American people. The American dream is quickly fading..and it's sad.

Re: Fiscal Cliff.. is anyone worried about this?

I think another reason Obama takes blame is because so many things that concerned people about romney are now happening on Obama's watch.

US is currently building up troops in Africa fighting battles that while I agree they need to be fought...we cannot afford, Fiscal cliff will kill the middle class (something everyone was counting on Obama to protect), and he has stated his support for senator feinsteins views on gun control (which IMO are extreme) which infringe on 2nd amendment rights.

that paired with the image of him going on vacation while fiscal cliff is looming over our heads doesn't leave the public with a feeling of faith.

Re: Fiscal Cliff.. is anyone worried about this?

I am worried.

My unemployment will end and DH will probably start bringing home less. We are lucky, we will be able to make it, but it will be extremely tight and we'll have to put things off like buying a house, having another baby, etc.

I don't understand 100% of the entire Fiscal Cliff ordeal, but I have tried to stay somewhat current on it. I do think the only way the country is going to get out of the slump we're in is by increasing taxes though, unfortunately. Where else is the money going to come from to work on this massive deficit?

As far as Obama being on vacation....doesn't bother me. Every president went on them, some more than others and he was back in Washington the day after Christmas. I also highly doubt that he laid on the beach and didn't get any phone calls, emails, etc. I think he is in a position where his vacations may not be what your or I consider a vacation.

AND of course he is going to be blamed...it's the way the game is played.

Fiscal Cliff.. is anyone worried about this?

Seriously, it's not any ONE person's fault that this started, has continued, has no resolution.

Obama inherited this mess. The economy was in the shitter when he was elected, so why are we not blaming GWB? It's not his fault either.

Obama went on vacation. So did every member of the house and senate.

Obama is the CEO, the house and senate are the board and primarily make the decisions. Obama gets veto power, but if there was a good enough plan with enough support, even THAT could be overridden. We're just the lowly shareholders who will get the shaft either way.

I agree, I don't blame obama for the fiscal cliff...I just think perception accounts for alot. I don't know that much more would have been accomplished had he not gone on vacation...but as a family that struggles, lives paycheck to paycheck, can't afford a vacation and has been seriously affected by the downfall of our economy...I have to admit that seeing politicians (not just obama) go on vacations while billions of people just like me and my family's futures and livelihood hang in the balance with DAYS left to save them upsets me. Not saying it's fair to feel that way...but I'm sure many people DO none the less.

I feel that way about most politicians though...whatever faith I had in politics is gone.

Yes, very concerned. My company provides services for the federal government, and the CEO has already said that if the fiscal cliff occurs and government funding cuts are made, so will layoffs. My job is at risk.

Re: Fiscal Cliff.. is anyone worried about this?

Worried, no, something will be done soon; disgusted, yes! I am sorry we pay their salaries and they are supposed to do a job for us, the people. I feel like they don't deserve their salary/health/benefits until they can come to an agreement about everything. You want to cut the budget - start with their health care benefits and huge salaries that they have no problem voting for huge increases all the while cutting things for the country.

In my mind the SOTH cannot rally his base. He could not even pass an alternative measure. He is politically done. The Republican party is so fractured and he cannot get anyone to agree. Then there are others who are gunning for his job. They are not helping the PEOPLE because they want the SOTH job themselves. So rather than doing the right thing for the PEOPLE they are sitting back and letting the country rot. It is disgusting. He has no one behind him. Unless the SOTH can figure out how to rally his party behind him nothing is going to happen.

Even if the Dems decided to negotiate against themselves, there is no one to negotiate with. I feel that going over the cliff may urge the Republicans to do something, but I am not holding my breath. I want to be clear that I place the blame for the position we are in on both parties as there is enough to go around.
