So upset
I went to dinner tonight at my inlaws with my 3 year old DS, my DH had to work. His uncle was there, the whole two hours i was there he keep making fun of how my DS talks. He is in speech and doesnt speak very clean, it came to the point where my son was getting behavioral over it because he was getting upset. I asked him to stop and he countinued anyway, so i pack up and left.
I was so mad i called my DH who is now fighitng with his parents cause they didnt say anything to correct the situation just sat there and let it happen even tho i asked this man to stop and my child there grandchild was visible upset.
I know i did the right thing but now i feel bad, i didnt expect them to fight the week before christmas but my DS should not be picked on by family in his own grandparents house.
Thanks for listening, i really just needed to vent more then anything!

I would be livid. My DD has speech issues so I can understand. If your family knows your DC has speech issues, they should definitely not be making fun or putting someone in line who has. I am sorry.

Thank you! Im more upset with my inlaws then anything. They know he is going for speech and that my DS is very sensitive of it and they let this happen anyway.

Not cool at all!! DD had speech issues and that would have made me CRAZY especially if your DS realized it and it was upsetting him.

How horrible! I'm so sorry you and DS had to go through that. You definitely did the right thing by standing up for your DC. What kind of an adult goes on after being outright asked to stop? Your IL's should have stepped in, but at the very least they should not be upset that you left.

ITA! What's crappy is that it happened at all! I'm sorry for family drama, but you absolutely did the right thing, & so is your DH for further enforcing that it was no ok!

You 100% did the right thing! Who does that?? And it's not your fault if they are fighting the week befpre Christmas...if your BIL hadn't been such a d-bag then there wouldnt be anything to fight over in the first place! And I totally agree that your IL's should have said something too. I would be telling BIL that until he can grow up and treat your son properly then he wont be seeing him. So sorry you and your son had to go through this!

Your in laws were wrong, and you were right to point it out. They should know that he has to be protected by those who love him. Shame on them for not doing their job, and kudos to you for doing whatever it takes to protect your child!

Thank you everyone...I feel much better with my decision to say something, I'm still do upset about it and its the next day. I don't know what possesses someone to mock a child

ITA! What kind of a person makes fun of a small child...and then continues to do it after being asked to stop? DD is only 16mo, but when I was a child, I had to go to speech, and I was SO embarrassed about it. If someone made fun of me (especially a family member), I would have been mortified. Your LO is lucky to have a mom like you, you definitely did the right thing.

You handled it really well. Teasing my child, when I'm the room.. I would have gave each of them some wonderful parting gifts before I packed up and left. What is wrong with people.

I completely agree with this. The fact that your in laws are giving you grief about it to me says that they knew they were wrong for not protecting your son. Your BIL needs to grow up and I don't think I could see him for the holidays until he came to apologize to my child.

Please do not feel bad, you did the right thing. What a jerk (for lack of a better word). You can expect something like that from another child but not a grown adult. I would be beyond upset. I am so sorry and so sorry for your son
