Re: peanut butter

I waited until 2 per my ped

I really don't eat it and we don't keep it in the house- so it's really a non issue.
But I wanted her to try it just to be sure she wasn't allergic for the future.

Re: peanut butter

We have no history of family allergies on either side.

We gave peanut butter to my son around 1 year old and he had no reaction.

After maybe the 3rd time eating it, he did have a reaction. We had him tested and he does have a peanut allergy (along with tree nuts and sesame).

I personally don't think it makes a difference whether you try it earlier or later after our experiences.

We asked our ped at our son's 18 month well visit. She said with no family history of food allergies on either side, it was perfectly fine to try. So we gave it to him then and no reaction. Good thing because it is one of his all time favorite foods now! I would check with your ped before giving it to your LO though, because they all have a different opinion about it.

Waited until 2, at the ped recommendation. First time he got a few red blotches on his neck, second time the same thing. Had him tested and he has a peanut, walnut and pecan allergy.

We have no family history of peanut allergy, but the allergist said that makes no difference. If anyone in the immediate family has any kind of allergy, it makes it more likely for their kids to have an allergy to something.

Dr. gave us the go ahead at his 1 year check up. We went slowly - actually started by giving him the peanut butter multigrain Cheerios. He had no problems. Chat Icon

Re: peanut butter

Around 12 months. Knew he wasn't allergic since several times I grabbed him shortly after I made a PB sandwich for his older brother.

Same here. Some things (with the exception of honey) even before a year.

We were going to wait until 2 but at 15 months the lil stinker grabbed one of my peanut butter crackers and shoved it in his mouth! We did the 3 day test.

We gave it around 18 months. Ped said it was fine if there was no famioy history. Definitely ask your ped because there are a wide variety of opinions on it.

Re: peanut butter

Gave it to DD at about 20 months. No family history of allergies. I was more worried about her being able to chew it, so I waited until after she got molars. I lived on trail mix and PB&J while I was pg and nursing her, so she's definitely been exposed. No issues. She loves it!

No history in my family so I didn't sweat it. I guess it was under a year. Same for honey. I know we watched her when we gave her both but got no reaction so we kept going.

Family history makes since but I would assume for every family without an allergy there's one who had none before that one child got it. The mother at my school who's daughter is allergic to just about everything has no allergies in her family or her husband's they were utterly unprepared for it. Though the little girl has grown out of some of the allergies since we first met.

The no nut rule at school this is hard. I feel for those parents so AJ is not allowed ANY nut type thing in the morning in case she doesnt wash her hands clean enough or I forget. God forbid she sets off an allergy attack I'd feel horrible.

My Ped told us at her 12 month check-up that she could eat everything except for Shellfish. We have given her peanut butter a few times and she loves it.

I understand the family history point, but my cousin was a peanut butter addict and then all of a sudden at 28 yrs old she became allergic. So you really never know.
